Battle Slots announced

Battle slots
If you wanted to combine a fantasy RPG with a casino slots game, you might end up with something like Battle Slots. The game was just announced today by publisher Phantom EFX who has released quite a few standard casino slots PC games along with the 2009 first person shooter Darkest of Days.

While the game is a map-based fantasy RPG with quests and monsters, the developers have replaced the die roll with a "magic" slot machine. There's no gambling in this game; the slot machine design generates things like gold, magic and attack points and more. The game's release date has not yet been announced.

Darkest of Days movie being scripted

Phantom EFX's recent game Darkest of Days didn't exactly tear up the sales charts when it was released last fall but the first person shooter's storyline of agents going back and forth in time to correct issues was at least least interesting. Now comes word that the game is in the first stages of being adapted into a feature film.

The movie version is being scripted by Douglas Cook and David Weisberg who are best known for writing the classic 1996 action flick The Rock. Well known movie producer Joe Roth is producing the movie which is currently being shopped around to film studios.

However, an unknown faction is attempting to re-write history for their own benefit. Your job is to stop them, and you'll fight your way through eras spanning thousands of years to do it."

Darkest of Days gets September 8 release date

Phantom EFX is about to move from making popular PC casino games to a hardcore first person shooter. Today the publisher announced that their long-in-development title Darkest of Days will be officially released on September 8.

Just a quick reminder for those of you coming into class late; the game, developed by 8monkey Labs (and using their own in-house graphics engine), has you in the role of Alexander Morris, a soldier in the US Army during the massacre at Little Big Horn. However you find your life is save by some sort of time agent. From there you are thrust into several different time periods to battle others who see to distrupt the time line.

New Darkest of Days web site launches

The folks at PhantomEFX are an interesting group. The PC game publisher has become successful by releasing a series of casual casino-style games. But just over a year ago they announced they were getting into the hard core gaming business with Darkest of Days, a time-travel based first person shooter from their own development studio 8Monkey Labs.

There hasn't been much info on the game since it's original announcement but today PhantomEFX announced that the Darkest of Days web site has relaunched. The new site has a little more info about the game along with some new screenshots and media and the first entry in the game's official blog site from PhantomEFX CEO Aaron Schurman. He talks about how he started developing the game's storyline and gameplay which will involve the player going to five different time periods (so far the Civil War, ancient Pompeii and World War I are the only ones that have been revealed) and participating in epic battles. It's a highly ambitious title and we hope that these newcomers to the genre can pull it off. Unfortunately we still don't have a solid release date for the game.
