8-bit StarCraft video may be fake but it's still cool

We have seen modern day games get the 8-bit conversion treatment: Left 4 Dead comes to mind immediately. Now a new YouTube video has been making the internet waves by showing off gameplay from an 8-bit version of Blizzard's classic RTS game StarCraft. It's awesome looking, except for one thing. There's no such 8-bit conversion. The video is a (still very cool) fake.

The video's author Owen Dennis tries to make a case that this is in fact a real deal for hilarious effect. In fact he's selling some very real 8-bit StarCraft t-shirts and other items online. Now all we have to do is wait for some programmer with not a lot of time on his or her hands to make what we see in this video into a real game. You have your assignment. GO!.

Developed by a fan named Eric Ruth, Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead imagines how Left 4 Dead might have looked and played if it were developed for the original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System. The game supports up to two players, however it only uses pre-set keyboard controls. Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead is free to download and play.

"Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead is Eric Ruth's tribute to both the days of retro gaming and Valve's award winning FPS franchise. This de-make was developed with one particular question in mind: 'What would Left 4 Dead have been like on the Nintendo Entertainment System?' I tackled that question full force by creating this title and releasing it for free to the masses on January 4th, 2010."
