Lost Planet 2 PC due out on October 15; benchmark test released

Several months after Capcom released the console versions of its sci-fi third person shooter Lost Planet 2 the developer has annnounced that the PC port of the game will finally be released on October 15. In addition to the game itself, Capcom has now released a benchmark test of Lost Planet 2 that should allow gamers to see how the full game will run on their PC rigs.

The benchmark, which you can download right here at Big Download, contains a gameplay area along with a DirectX11 benchmark. The full game will support both DirectX 9 and DirectX 11. It will also support Nvidia's 3D Vision and its recently launched multi-monitor 3D Vision Surround technology. You can check out the minimal and recommended PC hardware requirements for the game along with the specs for the 3D Vision support after the jump.

Nvidia launches 3D Vision Surround multi-monitor support

For the past several months, AMD's ATI unit has been promoting Eyefinity, a way to support three monitors on one PC graphics card in order to have more immersive PC gaming visuals. Now its biggest rival Nvidia has officially announced its answer to Eyefinity with 3D Vision Surround. As the name implies the new technology will allow graphics cards that support Nvidia GeForce 400 family of chips to support running three monitors on one card while also supporting 3D visuals (with the right monitors and glasses of course). Eyefinity currently doesn't support 3D gaming with its setup.

You can check out this PDF file to see which PC games support 3D Vision Surround which is only available for Windows 7 users (sorry Vista and XP owners). In tandem with this hardware-related launch Nvidia has also released new beta drivers for their GeForce cards that enable the 3D Vision Surround support in Windows 7. You can get the 258.69 version beta drivers in Windows 7/Vista and 64-bit Windows 7/Vista flavors.

Nvidia teases us with more from their next-gen graphics card

Technically Nvidia isn't suppose to launch their next-gen graphics card until March 26 at PAX East but in the meantime the company keeps teasing us with some more info about the capabilities for their their GeForce GTX 480 and 470 products. The company put up a new YouTube video that shows off the product's DirectX 11 features, such as tessellation.

At the end of the video they also show off Nvidia's answer to ATI's Eyefinity multi-monitor tech. It's called
3D Vision Surround and lets players hook up three 1980p 3D supported monitors with the appropriate GeForce graphics card and see the view in full 3D with Nvidia's 3D Vision glasses. Yes, it's really cool but yes it's also really expensive to buy all the things needed for it to work. Our sister site Engadget has posted up a video that shows more 3D Vision Surround in action which you can check out after the jump:
