What would a female version of Duke Nukem be like?

Recently there was a bit of controversy over the Capture the Babe multiplayer mode that will be in the upcoming Duke Nukem Forever game. The mode will have players hold the babe in question and if she started becoming antsy, the player is suppose to slap them (gently) on her behind. That caused some to be critical of the mode, saying any kind of physical force on a female was sending the wrong message.

In a new chat with Computer and Video Games, Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford defends Duke's behavior towards women, saying, " ... he actually loves women and will put himself to great risk to make sure that they're safe. That's the whole premise of the game." He added, "I think it'd be really interesting some day to see what a female version of Duke would be like. Maybe that's a game." Indeed that would be a game; anyone want to make it?

Duke Nukem Forever trailers are predictably crude

If there's one thing that Duke Nukem is known for, it's being as crude and not safe for work as possible. In this case, it involves either throwing around his own excrement (yes, really) or punching off the head of an alien and riding his torso into a building. Both of these trailers for Duke Nukem Forever are most certainly not safe for work on children, but they definitely give a look at Duke Nukem's brand of humor. It's the kind that involves smearing the environment with wet feces and drinking from a contaminated water faucet.

Mafia II Director's Cut for PC to feature The Betrayal of Jimmy

Mafia II's release last August by 2K Games got a lot of hype beforehand but the open world crime action game denied owners of the PC version a chance to get one of the game's post release DLC packs. Now that missing DLC pack, the Betrayal of Jimmy, will be included as part of a new retail release of the game, titled Mafia II: The Director's Cut.

This new re-release contains the original game, the two previously released DLC packs (Jimmy's Vendetta and Joe's Adventures) , the four pre-order "style packs" with new clothes and vehicles and The Betrayal of Jimmy which was previously an exclusive for the PS3 version of Mafia II. The Betrayal of Jimmy features lots of arcade-style city missions to accomplish. There's no word yet if previous PC owners will be able to access The Betrayal of Jimmy at some point. The Director's Cut will be released "in the coming months" for $29.95.

Duke Nukem Forever's latest delay explained by Gearbox head

Duke Nukem Forever's release date may have been delayed (again) by over a month but according to Gearbox Software's head man Randy Pitchford, the long awaited first person shooter will benefit from this latest minor setback. Answering questions from fans on his Twitter page on Thursday, Pitchford told one person, "The delay is because of time to finish some things that our predictions were wrong about. Lots of unrevealed details, still."

He admitted to another Twitter user, "
Yeah I know it sucks. It's *really* bad for us, but the alternative would've been worse for everyone. We're doing the right thing." As we reported on Thursday, Duke Nukem Forever will now be released in the US on June 14 rather than on May 3. Some fans have actually said this new release date is in fact a joke that will be revealed as such on April 1 (April Fool's Day) but according to Pitchford this new move is "Not a hoax".

Duke Nukem Forever delayed to June 14

Duke Nukem Forever is still coming, after 14 years of development. But it's apparently not coming on May 3 anymore. In a new trailer (which you can see after the jump) Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford is pretty much blindsided with the reveal that the long awaited first person shooter is now due for release on June 14 in the US (with a June 10 release date in other parts of the world).

While no reason was given for the delay we actually think this is a good thing since Duke Nukem Forever was originally being released in a very crowded month of May for new game releases, especially for first person shooters (both Brink and F.E.A.R. 3 are also due out that month). The new June date will be relatively free of new game releases.

Duke Nukem Forever's multiplayer features revealed

duke nukem forever
While the revival of Duke Nukem Forever has mostly concentrated on the single player campaign, the long awaited first person shooter will also have multiplayer modes. The official Xbox Magazine has the first details about multiplayer for DNF (supplied by developer Piranha Games) and the fan site Duke4.net has posted up some (most likely illegal) scans of the magazine's story.

Much like the recent Call of Duty and Battlefield games, multiplayer matches in Duke Nukem Forever will allow players to have persistent stats and leveling up of their player characters. Unfortunately the player cap for the Xbox port is 8 players (it might be bigger for the PC version)
Multiplayer will include access to the jetpack which won't be in the single player campaign. There's all the old favorite weapons from Duke Nukem 3D including the HoloDuke which adds one neat feature; while using HoloDuke your character is now cloaked.

There will be 10 maps at launch and four modes: Dukematch, Team Dukematch, Hail to the King (basically King of the Hill mode) and our favorite Capture the Babe. Yes, it's CTF with the flag turned into a lady who can sometimes freak out while your player character is holding her. The maps will include a revival of Duke Nukem 3D's Duke Burger level, except that the players appear to be miniatures running around in a giant world. A multiplayer demo is planned for release before the game ships in early May.

The Darkness 2 to get prequel comic book for Free Comic Book Day

A few weeks ago developer Digital Extremes and publisher 2K Games announced plans to release The Darkness 2, a sequel to the horror-themed first person shooter based on the Top Cow-published comic book. Now Top Cow has announced that it will take advantage of a big day in the comic book industry to help promote the game.

That day, May 7, is Free Comic Book Day, where comic book stores all over the US offer free comic book issues by the major publishers, some of which are made especially for the event. Top Cow had plans to issue another book from its line up for Free Comic Book Day but today it announced that it has changed its plans and will now issue an original comic that will serve as a prequel to The Darkness 2. The game itself is due for release this fall.
