First-person shooter games, even great ones, were fairly simple in terms of design. Get from point A to point B and kill anything in your way. Red Storm decided to do something different for their 1998 game Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six.

With input from best selling author Clancy, Rainbow Six had players control not just one character but a whole squad of anti-terrorist soldiers in hot spots around the globe. The idea of planning attacks and load-outs before going on missions had never been done before in this kind of action game.

The first Rainbow Six game was a big hit as were several sequels and follow-ups. With the Tom Clancy game franchise now at Ubisoft it is very likely that there will be more Rainbow Six titles in the future. 24/04/09
