Alone in the Dark
Try to forget about that really bad Uwe Boll movie or the recent poor attempt at a remake. The original Alone in the Dark, released in 1992, remains one of the best of the survival horror genre.
The game was developed and published by Infogrames which later changed its name to Atari. Players had to deal with supernatural enemies as they explored a haunted mansion in Louisiana. The non-linear gameplay and the emphasis on exploration as opposed to combat made Alone in the Dark more of a thinking man's game.
Infogrames made several sequels and in 2008 created a poorly received revival. It remains to be see if Infogrames/Atari will return to the series
