Long before Valve launched their Steam PC game download service they announced plans for PowerPlay. Officially revealed in January 2000, Valve teamed up with networking and router company Cisco on a plan to give PC gamers a better online gaming experience.
While lots of game publishers and developers signed on to support PowerPlay the proposed service never really got off the ground, perhaps because of the rapidly growing use of broadband was taking over from dial-up connections. In the end Valve quietly killed PowerPlay in 2001 30/12/09
