Epic Games is without a doubt one of the most successful game developers around. Not only do they license their Unreal Engine to tons of other developers their own games are top notch.

However their flagship series, Unreal Tournament, took some sales hits in 2007 when Unreal Tournament III was released by Midway while their Xbox 360 sequel Gears of War 2 sold millions of copies. So it was no surprise to hear Epic's lead programmer Tim Sweeney state that Epic wasn't going to release any new retail Unreal Tournament games for several years.

The interview over at G4TV in mid-July makes it clear that Epic has some other fish to fry but we do hope they return to the Unreal universe at some point. 01/08/09
