One of the biggest game properties in the PC game industry is the Command & Conquer franchise. First launched by Las Vegas-based Westwood Studios in 1995 the company was owned at the time by Virgin Interactive. However in 1998, Electronic Arts bought Westwood for $122.5 million, securing the C&C franchise.

Many other C&C games were developed by Westwood but in 2003 EA decided to shut down the Las Vegas studio and bring the C&C series to their Los Angeles team. While Westwood is no more, EA continues to expand the franchise, most recently with C&C: Red Alert 3. Some former Westwood team members launched another Las Vegas based developer, Petroglyph, which continues to develop their own original games. 24/06/09
