Just a month after the release of id Software's original Quake game came the first version of Team Fortress, a class based multiplayer game created by a then unknown Australian based mod team. With player classes like the Soldier, the Demo Man, the Medic and others, this was no simple run-and-gun mod but a complex game in of itself.
There were a number of versions of Team Fortress Quake released before Half-Life development studio Valve bought the mod and brought its main team members, including Robin Walker and John Cook, to Valve to work on Team Fortress 2 which was first announced in 1998. Before Team Fortress 2, the mod team created Team Fortress Classic, a slightly modifed version of the Quake mod for the original Half-Life. Fans waited patiently as Team Fortress 2's development went through a number of changes before the final version, a stand alone game with a cartoony art style, was finally released in 2007, nine years after it was originally announced. 17/11/08
