Alpha Centauri was tentatively described as "Civilization in space" by those first to play it. However, it rapidly became apparent that it was much more than just Civilization. Many of the concepts presented, such as the technological disciplines, customizable units, and modular governmental structure had never been done before. In fact, only the modular government has been reincorporated back into the main Civilization series through the fourth installment. There are a lot of excellent strategic systems at work here that people don't know, and it's an absolute shame. 25/05/09
