When Quake came out it was something completely new and different: a fully 3D, polygonal game. It blew everyone away and managed to grab people's attention like never before. It was, after all, one of the first 3D games. It didn't use tricks to make things appear higher or lower than other things. They actually did have height variance. naturally, Quake was highly regarded at the time and is still considered a classic that most people have played. 14/12/09
