IL-2 Sturmovik is one of a long line of flight simulators. Not from the company that made IL-2, but in general. The combat flight simulation has its roots all the way back in the actual military, with some of the most popular flight simulators before IL-2 being Red Baron, Falcon 4.0, and Air Warrior.
