Giants: Citizen Kabuto starts off with a crash. Rather, it's the crashing of an alien ship into a floating chunk of a planet called The Island. The aliens, known as Meccaryns, are on their way to go on a bender at a paradise planet, but ended up getting sidetracked by a fish with a large appetite. Upon landing, they get caught up in a conflict between the indigenous Smarties, the matriarchal Sea Reapers, and the gigantic monster Kabuto. It's a story with heavy comedic inspirations, but it does have some deep emotional undertones, such as camaraderie, loneliness, and redemption. All hidden under the sheen of hilarious dialogue and crazy situations, of course. The main story of Giants is split into three chapters, each covering one of the three playable races: the Meccaryns (or Meccs), the Sea Reapers, and Kabuto. You have to play the different sections in order, which is a minor pain, especially if you want to play the race you like most. Still, each race is genuinely fun to play, which is more than can be said of most RTS games. As two of the races play like the hybrid of RTS and action games, it definitely counts. 21/09/09
