Freespace, as the first game from newcomer Volition, was a gamble on the part of Interplay. In a misleading gesture to alleviate part of this gamble, the game was given the Descent prefix, when it actually had nothing to do with Descent at all (except for some snipped code). This makes the casual observer think that it is a part of the Descent series, but we can assure you that it is not. Freespace is its own series and universe, and is completely separate from Descent. As you will find when you play, this is a good thing. 26/04/10
