Counter-Strike has had an interesting history. It was the first Half-Life mod to receive outright support from Valve, ending in the rights and team being bought by Valve to work on the game. It went through a lengthy beta period before it was finally released to the internet. It's gone through a number of iterations, and the current version is 1.6, but it has still stayed at the top of the multiplayer charts. If counted alongside Counter-Strike: Source, it's potentially the most played first-person shooter, with countless thousands of servers online at any particular time and support from every major gaming league. In short, if you have not played Counter-Strike, you have not experienced modern online FPS gaming. 04/01/10
