At the time Baldur's Gate was released, traditional computer RPGs were going through some rough times. Despite their brilliant heyday at the hands of games like Ultima, recent years had been rough on the genre as Doom fever took over. In a two year period, though, that all changed. Fallout, Baldur's Gate, and Diablo all released around the same time, providing players with a slew of fantastic stories and settings to play in. In a sense, Baldur's Gate is partly responsible for players still enjoying traditional RPGs on the PC. That's not even mentioning its extremely favorable reception. 27/09/10
