Killing Floor (1 of 10)

Killing Floor is unique in that it was originally meant to be a re-released mod. When the original developers approached Tripwire about using the Red Orchestra engine for their mod, Tripwire turned things around and outright bought the license. The result is an excellent multiplayer game that provides one of the best co-op experiences of the past few years. You'd be hard pressed to find a better shooter for $20, including Tripwire's own Red Orchestra. That's saying something.
Killing Floor follows the survival of a group of soldiers and mercenaries sent to eliminate an army of mutants that are coming from a nearby compromised laboratory. While the monsters may nominally be referred to as zombies, this is far from the truth. They have more in common with the crazy and decrepit industrial designs of the Saw movies than traditional zombies. The gameplay may be standard, but the addition of stats persistence and the amount of polish in the design of the weapons, enemies, and maps make this an addicting and incredibly game. 24/12/09
