A recent release by Paradox Interactive, the indie sandbox game Mount and Blade had been in development for quite a while before release. It's justified, though, as it's pretty and has extremely engaging sandbox medieval gameplay that mixes strategy, action, and RPG elements into a cohesive whole. Mount and Blade is one of the best RPGs this year, indie or otherwise, and is a must-play.
