Who would have thought that a game made by a low key North Carolina developer would launch a new sub-genre but continue to this day? Red Storm Entertainment teamed up with techno-military writer Tom Clancy to create the original Rainbow Six game in 1998, the first tactical shooter game that allows gamers to think and plan their way through a firefight.

The game not only created the formula for all other tactical shooter games in its wake, but it launched the Tom Clancy name as a true gaming franchise, spawning many other action and strategy titles based on the brand. Ubisoft bought Red Storm many years ago and more recently secured the Tom Clancy name for future games. 04/02/09
