Gears of War

Gears of War (1 of 10)

This should have been a slam dunk. Epic Games sold millions of copies of the Xbox 360 version of this sci-fi shooter in 2006. And they added so much to the PC version; new multiplayer maps and modes and a whole new mini single player campaign.

Yet the PC port of Gears of War, released a year after the Xbox 360 original, didn't get nearly the amount of sales that were expected. Part of the problem was Microsoft's Games for Windows Live which forced people to pay for certain multiplayer features at the time (Games for Windows Live is now completely free). But the main reason was that even with all of the new content, many gamers most likely bought the original and didn't feel like buying it for a second time. It's a shame because the PC port was an excellent one on a technical level. With Epic now saying we won't get a PC port of Gears of War 2, it appears that PC owners will have to make due with this underrated PC version of the original. 03/10/08
