7: StarCraft II's trilogy plans
There was lots of news made at last October's Blizzcon event but the biggest news item had to be the reveal about StarCraft II, the sequel to Blizzard's sci-fi RTS game that was first announced over a year ago.
Blizzard execs revealed that StarCraft II would in fact be released as a trilogy of stand alone game titles. Each title would have a separate single player campaign concentrating on one of StarCraft's three main factions.
Many fans saw this move as a way to milk StarCraft II gamers for more money. It's a charge that Blizzard itself has denied, saying they simply wanted to make the game they wanted to make.
We still don't have any more info on when the first of the StarCraft II trilogy will actually be released (although many are hoping for a late 2009 ship date). You can bet that fans of the original will indeed buy all three parts just as World of Warcraft players have purchased expansion packs for their MMO.
