I don't mean to be misleading when I call Demigod my favorite underdog RTS, but that's what it is when going up against the likes of Starcraft II and Dawn of War II. However, make no mistake, this is a game that can compete on both the graphical and design level with those other two titles. Demigod is both incredibly unlike the two mentioned games, but also very much an RTS game.

You can play Demigod as one of two character types, Assassin or General. An example of an Assassin would be the big, lumbering Shadow of the Colossus-looking unit we've all seen before. If you pick this moving fortress with arms and legs, you're going to be playing Demigod as though it were an RPG within an RTS. While there will always be troops that spawn from a portal on your map, you'll never actually control them directly. This means that your choice between Assassin and General greatly changes the gameplay. For instance, you'll use your Demigod to capture strategic points that will earn gold and improve your non-controlled troops. However, depending on the way your character plays, you'll either be capping these points with your big, strong mega-unit or some of your troops. Then, you'll either use your gold to equip your Assassin type with new armor and such or purchase further troops for you to control with a General. This is a simple, yet ingenious way to make the game feel RTS-ish while allowing someone who's more familiar with RPGs to both enjoy the game and even excel at it. 04/09/08
