In this developer video, the team at Playlogic go into detail about some of the game features found in Fairytale Fights, a hack-and-slash action game where players use fairytale characters to cut a bloody path through hordes of enemies. Players have access to a variety of different weapons and items which work using Real Time Dynamic Slicing, a system that adds special directional effects to the bloodshed.

Epic has released the Unreal Development Kit (UDK), a free version of Unreal Engine 3 for aspiring game developers. It's absolutely free for noncommercial and educational purposes. Those that wish to use Unreal Engine 3 for commercial use will need should refer to licensing terms at www.udk.com/licensing. The press announcement, demonstration video and features list can be seen after the jump. For more information, users can visit the official forums or the UDK documentation page.

To demonstrate the power and versatility of the development tool, there are two free games available, made using the UDK. They are:

Whizzle: A vertical scrolling puzzle game in which players swim through levels as Whizzle, an adorable sea creature that collects items and frees tiny comrades from captivity. Avoid the electrifying stingers of the jellyfish! More information about Whizzle, including a developer diary video, can be seen after the jump.

The Ball: An episodic, puzzle-based action game. Known as one of the most award-winning Unreal Tournament 3 mods in the $1 Million Intel Make Something Unreal Contest, "The Ball" has won honors for Best Use of Physics, Best Game Type and Best FPS Mod. Toltec Studios has ported over its UT3 mod to UDK, and the free, standalone version of The Ball is available for download.

Capcom games are generally known for having stylized and memorable characters. Naturally, the development team working on Dark Void wants to live up to that expectation by having fully fleshed out characters for players to enjoy and interact with, and in doing so will overcome the stereotype that American video game characters are two-dimensional. We'll soon find out how successful they are when Dark Void releases in 2010.

In the previous chapter of The Future Past, a series of developer videos that explain the backstory of Star Trek Online, the Klingons were fighting an ever escalating war against the Gorn. Well, it turns out that war lasted for several years, and soon that conflict reached its conclusion, the Klingon Empire set its sights on reclaiming territory lost to the Federation during the war from the original series. Old enemies and once allies of the Federation quickly become new enemies, and in comes a brand new war. Think you're ready for it? A gameplay trailer can be seen after the jump, demonstrating the glorious space battles players can look forward to.

Star Trek Online is expected to release in 2010.

So will it take Jerry Bruckheimer to finally make a video game-based movie that we can all really enjoy? The jury will have to stay out on that verdict until Memorial Day 2010. In the meantime, IGN has the first look at the long awaited trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time which will star Jake Gyllenhaal in his full on Gyllenhallness.

As expected the Disney-made movie has a ton of visual effects and Gyllenhall seems to have the acrobat moves of the Prince down. However, cool special effects and fancy footwork don't make a good movie and while Bruckheimer's films do tend to be crowd pleasers . . . well, this is a video game movie we are taking about.

Oh boy. Here we go again. First, Infinity Ward manages to make lots of hardcore PC gamers upset by not supporting dedicated servers for the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. Then a pretty brutal scene from the upcoming FPS (that has a plot point that we won't go into here) is leaked into the Internet. Now a new promo video for the game on YouTube has a statement that may (or may not) have some homophobic connotations.

The video itself is just a bit of a goof as it shows a virtual version of Philadelphia Phillis pitcher Cole Hamels (a known fan of Infinity Ward's previous games) getting blown up by a hailstorm of grenades. However the "sponsor" that is written out at the end of the video can be taken to be . . . something else when you use the first letter of each word.

Naturally we have emailed Activision and Infinity Ward to find out if that "hidden" message was intentional.

This soundtrack video for Shattered Horizon is a little more straightforward than most others of this nature. The developers (Futuremark Games Studios) ask the game's score composer, Markus 'Captain' Kaarlonen, a series of questions but there's no voice interaction. There's not even a photo of Markus. Instead, the orchestral music plays in the background of in-game video footage while the all-text interview runs atop of it. That way, the major focus stays on listening to the music. If you like listening to it, the video also makes great video wallpaper.

Shattered Horizon is scheduled to release on November 4th.

Shattered Horizion is a "multiplayer first-person shooter is played entirely in zero gravity. A catastrophic explosion on the Moon has filled near-Earth space with billions of tons of rocky debris. You and your friends will join intense 32 player battles to control hollowed-out asteroids, huge fragments of Moon rock and the ruined remains of the International Space Station."

While the previous developer diary for James Cameron's Avatar: The Game dealt with the synergy between the upcoming movie and the game, this newest chapter deals with the world of Pandora, which hides plenty of dangers, but despite that has an unparalleled beauty that makes it a paradise. Humanity, sticking with its instincts, seeks to pillage the planet, thus sparking a conflict between our race and the native inhabitants.

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game is scheduled to release on December 1st.

The Champions Online Bloodmoon Halloween event started yesterday, but for those who still haven't logged into the game yet, the developers at Cryptic Studios give a complete run down of the features players can expect. Events include hunting werewolves, with the possibility of becoming a werewolf (and being hunted) if bit. There's also a new Celestial power set to try out and a special holiday PvP mode where a band of heroes must try to fend off a horde of zombies, but if any fall, they will become zombies themselves. The Bloodmoon event is live now and will end on November 5th.

By now, the Dragon Age: Origin's Warden's Quest is well underway, as teams from across Europe and North America converge in London, England to compete for a $50,000 grand prize in a 24-hour contest. Without having any previous hands-on time with the game, each team will try to battle against the terrors found in Dragon Age: Origins, seeking to kill the most creatures, deliver the most damage and keep from getting knocked out of the standings. Fans are invited to keep up with the event through the official website.

Dragon Age: Origins will release next week on November 3rd.

Modern Warfare 2 is now less that two weeks from release but already leaked footage from the full game have hit the Interwebs. One video in particular seems to show a scene that could get more people upset than the recent reveal that Washington DC is a battleground in the game.

We don't like spoiling major plot points, so if you don't want to know what happens in this allegedly leaked footage, read no further. For the rest of you we will see you after the jump:

As promised, Ubisoft has released the first of three short films under the umbrella title of Assassin's Creed: Lineage. The live action short movies with lots of green screen effects are designed to be a prequel to the events in Assassin's Creed 2 which is due out for the PC in the first quarter of 2010. The movie has Giovanni Auditore da Firenze as the central character; he's the father of Assassin's Creed 2's "star" Ezio.

The movie, created by Hybride Studios (which Ubisoft bought last year), is several notches above the usual viral marketing live action short that game companies sometime crank out to promote a game. This video looks and feels more like a serious production rather than a simple marketing scheme. The other two parts of the series should be released sometime in November.

The Left 4 Dead 2 pre-order demo goes live today, so everyone could use a few pointers in avoiding the dreaded 'L4D2' Virus, as demonstrated in this humorous viral video. This is part one in a series of videos made to look like like an amateur home movie, leading up to the game's official release on November 20th. The Gamespot TV commercial can be seen after the jump.
