GoGamer.com serves up some July 4th PC game deals

The retail gaming web site GoGamer.com is at it again with its latest price cut sale. This particular one lasts until 3 am Tuesday and is filled with lots of PC games, both new and old. Perhaps the one that will generate the most interest is Left 4 Dead which can be picked up for $29.90 during the sale.

Other games on sale at GoGamer include the just released Overlord 2 for $34.90, The Sims 3 for $37.90 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for $19.90. You can also grab some older games at rock bottom prices including Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for just $5.90 and the original Call of Juarez for a mere $4.90.

Direct2Drive has some high-powered Fourth of July PC game deals

IGN's Direct2Drive site is celebrating the upcoming Fourth of July holiday with some big price cuts on selected games. From now until July 5 you can download and purchase Call of Duty 4 for just $27.95, Call of Duty World at War for just $34.95 and a Company of Heroes bundle (containing the original game and the two stand alone expansion packs) for just $34.95.

If you are a procrasinator you can wait until July 12 to get the following deals: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for just $14.95, the Game of the Year version (containing the original game, the Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles expansions and all of the official DLC content) for just $17.95, and the original ArmA for $14.95. You can also get the original ArmA with its just released sequel ArmA II in a bundle for $60.

Two Worlds: The Temptaton turns into Two Worlds II

Reality Pump Studios knows how to confuse us big time. Their 2007 fantasy RPG Two Worlds was supposed to be followed by an expansion pack called Two Worlds: The Temptation. However those plans changed and in 2008 Two Worlds: The Temptation turned into a full fledged stand alone sequel.

That game was supposed to be released late in 2008 but obviously that didn't happen. Now it appears Reality Pump is going old school by renaming their sequel. It's now simply called Two Worlds II with Reality Pump now promising it will be out sometime this winter. The game itself takes place two years after the original and the developer promises to show us not only new locations in the fantasy world of Eastern Antaloor but graphic engine and AI improvements . . . at least until their next title change.

Elemental beta coming (maybe) in 60 days

With all of the networking issues in Demigod now corrected, its publisher Stardock can now put more emphasis on their next major game release, the internally developed fantasy strategy-RPG Elemental: War of Magic. This week, Stardock head Brad Wardell posted up some new screenshots from the game on it's official web site and we have added those shots to our gallery. It's been a while since we have seen new shots with Wardell saying, "We've been hesitant to show too many screenshots until the shadowing is in."

Beta testing for the game should begin "in around 60 days" according to Wardell so expect it to start around the end or August or early September. As usual with Stardock's games, anyone can enter the beta by simply pre-ordering the game now.

Alpha Protocol gets release date and new sub-title

It's a game that we have been waiting for a long time to get our hands on and today Sega took the unusual move of announcing a release date for a game that isn't due out for over three months. The game in question is Alpha Protocol and the Obsidian Entertainment-developed action-RPG is now due out in stores on October 6.

The Unreal Engine 3-powered take on the super-spy genre has also picked up a newly revealed sub-title: The Espionage RPG. Perhaps Sega wasn't too sure that the Alpha Protocol title was good enough to identify the game as part of the spy genre.

Risen will rise (in stores) on October 2

It's somewhat rare for a game to get a solid release date several months in advance these days but that's what's happing to the upcoming fantasy RPG Risen. Today the game's publisher Deep Silver announced that the game from developer Piranha Bytes will ship to stores worldwide on October 2.

The press release announcing the release date proudly states, "The contents of Risen are already complete, and all dialogs have been recorded." They also state that three separate quality assurance teams are working to complete Risen. Let's hope that three teams is enough to squash all the issues in Risen and avoid what happened with Piranah Bytes' last game Gothic 3 where the game shipped with lots of bugs.

Fallout 3 on sale on Steam this weekend

Like other PC game download sites this week, the Steam service is starting their weekend sales pitch a little bit early thanks to the US-based Fourth of July holiday. Today Steam announced that for the next few days the price of the hit Bethesda Softworks RPG Fallout 3 will have a 50 percent price cut.

Yep, that means that the highly acclaimed 2008 game, which is normally $49.99 on Steam, can now be bought for the next few days for just $24.99. It's too bad that you can't download the four (so far) mini-expansions to the game via Steam as well.

More classic games added to GoG.com

The DRM-free web site GoG.com isn't done with us yet this week. The classic PC game site has a couple of extra additions to their growing library to tell you about. One of them is Personal Nightmare, a classic horror-adventure game from developer Adventure Soft. It was released way back in 1989 making this title the oldest in GoG.com's library. You can download and play it now for $5.99.

GoG.com has also added Crystals of Arborea and Ishar III to its Ishar Compilation of RPG games. You can now get all four games in the series for just $5.99. If you already bought the collection when it just had two games, you can now get the two additional titles for free.

Boot Disk: Heroes of Might and Magic 2

Sometimes you just need to sit down, slide a floppy into your A: drive, and enjoy gaming retro style. We know this all too well! That's why we have a list of the best and brightest from days long gone. These are some of our favorite games of all time, and we're sure that you'll love them as much as we do, if not more. Welcome to Boot Disk, and enjoy the retro ride!

The Might and Magic series has always been a popular one with the PC role-playing game fans. However, while the main series is certainly good, it is the Heroes sub-series that everyone remembers with such fondness. Randomized maps, economics mixed with fantasy warfare, and some excellent strategic options helped boost it over the Might and Magic series as a whole. While Heroes of Might and Magic V has been out for a while now, it's certainly not considered the best in the series. No, that honor is reserved for the one and only Heroes of Might and Magic II. So let's take a look at just why it is the best in a great series.

New DLC news for Mass Effect 1 delayed

It looks like BioWare has given us a change to chase a wild goose. Earlier this week the BioWare Mass Effect 2 Twitter site announced that news on the long awaited second downloadable content pack for first installment of their sci-fi RPG series would be revealed this week. Well, as you can imagine no such news was actually revealed.

We don't know what happened but a updated "tweet" on the page from "Evil Chris" does say, "Due to circumstances beyond my control (me being stupid on timing), any news of more ME1 DLC will have to wait. Sorry folks." Earlier this year hints were given that the second DLC for Mass Effect 1 would involve some kind of battle arena but as Evil Chris said we will just have to wait longer to find out for sure.

New GoGamer.com PC games sales include new Spore expansion

GoGamer.com has launched their latest 48 Hour Madness sale on their site and this time the PC game sales are mostly of recently released titles rather than those that are several years old. Indeed the sale includes the just released Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen game which is priced at just $19.99 for the sales time period.

Also cut in price is Spore Galactic Adventures, the first real expansion pack for the alien evolution sim. GoGamer has the title available for $24.90. Other games with price cuts include Fallout 3 ($32.90) Grand Ages: Rome ($12.90) and Terminator: Salvation ($24.90). The sale lasts until 3 am ET on Tuesday.

Obsidian finally confirms Aliens RPG cancelation

It's a bit of an anti-climax at this point but Obsidian Entertainment has finally confirmed what was highly suspected for months; their Aliens RPG project for Sega is no more. In a post on their message board, a rep for the game developer stated, "Unfortunately, it is true that we are no longer working on the game, and we wanted to finally announce that officially to everyone who has been following its development."

Don't weep for Obsidian; they have two more announced projects in the works; the super-spy action-RPG title Alpha Protocol and the still mysterious Fallout: New Vegas game. They also have a third game under development that nothing is known about yet.
