F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn video goes wild with a Replica Gone Rogue

The developers at Monolith love making music videos for their DLC, and already put one together for the Slo-mo deathmatch update, so it was only a matter of time before they got to singing about the F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn single player campaign. In it, players take the role of a replica gone rogue, not too much unlike the one that goes wild in this video... Ok, it's actually very different. For instance, why don't we get a dolphin to ride on?

The F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn DLC expansion is available now for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn trailer turns you into a replica soldier

The newest DLC expansion, F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn released today for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, adding an all-new campaign to the game. In it, players take the role of Replica Soldier Foxtrot 813. PC players can purchase the expansion for $9.99 US via digital outlets like Steam, Direct2Drive and Digital River.

"F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn immerses gamers in the chaos of Alma's aftermath in an entirely new role: that of Replica Soldier Foxtrot 813. Gamers begin the mission as part of an orbital Powered Armor drop to reinforce their squad, and the ruined city of Auburn emanates supernatural events and familiar voices, beckoning Foxtrot 813 to go against orders from Replica command. Be careful, not everything is as it seems..."

Review: F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn

After a summer of free monthly DLC packs that added new multiplayer modes and features to F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, the developers at Monolith have turned their attention back to the single player experience. In doing so comes F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn, a purchasable downloadable content pack that includes an all-new campaign. However, the story doesn't continue from the main game's cliffhanger ending. Instead, it puts players into the role of a replica soldier named Foxtrot 813 who has been "liberated" from his drone-like existence by the psychic call of Paxton Fettel. From then on, players must make their way to the Origin Facility, ground zero for the psychic explosion, where Fettel awaits.

F.E.A.R. 2 video discovers SloMo Deathmatch

One of the things missing from F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin's multiplayer is SloMo Deathmatch, a game mode that was present in the first game where players could pick up an object that slows other players down (or makes the player move faster, depending on your point of view). The upcoming downloadable content expansion, F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn will correct that oversight by finally putting in the game mode. In the tradition of DLC packs in the past, this video skit includes a song to celebrate the occasion. F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn will be a free update releasing for console systems on September 3rd with a PC version to follow sometime after. The F.E.A.R. 2 single player demo can be downloaded here.

PC gamers NOT getting a free F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn demo after all [Update]

Update: Well this is getting silly. Now the same PR person who emailed us Wednesday there would be a demo of F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn has emailed us today saying, "apparently there will NOT be PC demo after all." Geeze...we feel a headache coming on.

Last month Warner Bros Interactive announced plans for F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn, a new downloadable expansion for the Monolith created first person shooter that would add a new mini-single player campaign along with a new "slow-mo" deathmatch mode. While the publisher announced that a free demo for F.E.A.R 2 Reborn would be released on August 27 we were told at the time by the game's PR rep that it was just for the console versions.

However, sometimes things do change for the better. This week the PR rep for the game emailed us to say, basically, they have given us incorrect info. In fact PC gamers will be able to download a free demo for F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn on August 27, the same date as the console versions. The full version of the downloadable expansion will be released for consoles on September 3 but there's still no date for when the full PC version will be made available.

No PC demo for F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn

Monolith giveth and Monolith taketh away. Earlier today we reported that the upcoming single player downloadable expansion F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn would be released for the PC platform. However that release will come sometime after the console versions are made available on September 3.

However, Monolith also stated that a free demo of F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn would be released about a week before the DLC is made available. Unfortunately we have now heard from the game's PR reps who have told Big Download that the demo is just for the console versions and there will be no such demo for the PC port. If it's any consolation it's likely that the PC port of F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn will be made available for free via a patch while our console brethern will have to spend some cash for their DLC.

GoGamer.com has new PC game sales this weekend

GoGamer.com has decided to take a bit of a head start on the weekend sales front this time out. Their 48 Hour Madness sale, as usual, brings massive price cuts to a number of more recent and older PC retail game titles. The sales end at 3 am ET on Saturday.

Among the games on sale this week include The Last Remnant for $29.90, F.E.A.R. 2 for just $24.90, Medieval II: Total War Gold Edition and Rome: Total War Gold for just $9.90 each and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow for a mere $4.90 each.

F.E.A.R. 2 trailer gets Reborn

F.E.A.R. 2 fans are in for a treat this fall when the next DLC expansion, Reborn, is released. F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn includes a four level mini campaign that shows the events of the game from a completely different point a view - that of a replica soldier. The cloned soldier, named Foxtrot813, hears voices that go against Replica command, causing him to search through the city of Auburn on his own. Also included in the downloadable expansion is Slo-mo deathmatch, were players compete to get powerups to slow other players down, providing a distinct short term advantage. However, those that hang on to the ability become a more valuable target to everyone else. F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn is expected to release for console systems on September 3rd and sometime later for the PC.

More F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn details; confirmed for PC release

Earlier this week it was revealed that Monolith is working on F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn a downloadable single player expansion for their horror themed first person shooter. Today publisher Warner Brothers Interactive revealed more details about the expansion and confirmed a PC port of the DLC will be released some time after the console versions are released on September 3.

As we have previously reported the DLC will have four new single player maps in a new mini-campaign focusing on one of F.E.A.R. 2's replica soldiers. It will also add a "slow-mo" power up to F.E.A.R. 2's multiplayer matches. Whomever grabs the power up will slow down all of the other opponants in the match. A demo for F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn is scheduled for release on August 27; we have sent out a note asking if there will be a PC version of the demo.

Single player F.E.A.R. 2 DLC coming in August

Monolith has already released two multiplayer add-ons for their first-person shooter sequel F.E.A.R. 2. Now IGN is reporting that Monolith will release a third DLC offering for the game; however this time the expansion, titled F.E.A.R.2: Reborn, will add a new single-player mini-campaign to the game.

In a chat with Monolith's Associate Producer Lucas Myers, it's revealed that Reborn will feature four new single player levels with the player controlling Foxtrot 813, one of the replica soldiers that serves as one of the many opponents in the main single player campaign. The DLC is scheduled to be released this August; it's unknown if the PC version will receive it at this point but PC players did get the previous two multiplayer DLC releases at no cost as part of a patch.

Snakefist makes a return in unpublished F.E.A.R. 2 end credit video

Players only get a brief face-to-face conversation with the character Snakefist in the F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin single player game. At which time, he hands you the coolest gun in the game shortly before... well... losing his head. The developers at Monolith felt that any character named Snakefist deserved a comeback during the end credit sequence, but ultimately decided that a comical credit sequence would be too much of a shift from game's ending and cut it. Now Snakefist is back in this stand alone video without those credits distracting from him.

Feature: The top PC games of 2009 (so far) and a couple of disappointments

We are a little over halfway through the end of 2009 and so far things in the PC game industry have pretty much been what we have expected. We've had some games that were as good as we expected and other that didn't quite meet our high hopes. We've also had a couple of surprises that have kept us on our toes.

Today, We have decided to look back and give our picks for the best PC games released so far this year (in the order of which they have been released). We have also picked a couple of high profile titles that were also released but did not end up to as good as we had hoped.

However the first half of the year is usually not when the big PC game releases show up. We still have a lot to look forward to in the back half of 2009 with games like Modern Warfare 2, BioShock 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Borderlands, Champions Online, Aion, Dragon Age: Origins and (if Blizzard sticks to its announced schedule) StarCraft 2. In other words we likely haven't seen the best games of the year just yet.

F.E.A.R. 2 Armored Front video sings the EPA song

The F.E.A.R. 2 Armored Front downloadable map pack expansion became available today for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners, and there's no better way to celebrate than to sing a song about it like with Monolith did previously with the Toy Soldiers map pack. This one celebrates the toughest machine in the game, the EPA (Elite Powered Armor), and its ability to mow down enemies with an unlimited supply of ammo. Armored Front includes two new maps (Conductor and Decoy) and four new character heads for players to customize their characters. No release date for the PC release of the expansion has been announced yet.
