BioShock 2 multiplayer video unleashes some major carnage

This short but sweet gameplay video, captured in a BioShock 2 competitive multiplayer session, reveals many of the weapons and abilities players can look forward to using. Besides the freeze power, there also appears to be the teleportation power that was removed from the first game before it released due to game balance issues. It looks like those issues got worked out in the sequel.

BioShock 2 Special Edition announced

After being left out of a lot of the "special" packages for games, PC gamers get a pretty nice one with the announcement today of the BioShock 2 Special Edition. As revealed today on the Cult of Rapture community site, the collector's edition of the upcoming 2K Marin-Digital Extremes-2K Games first person shooter will be released for the PC for $89.99 alongside the regular edition on February 9. There will just be one production run on this puppy so quantities will be limited.

In addition to the game of course, the Special Edition comes with a 164 page hardcover art book with developer commentary, a CD with the BioShock 2 soundtrack, a vinyl LP with songs from the first BioShock game, and three posters with Rapture city ads. All of the contents will be put into a special 13x13 inch package. It's actually looking like it will be worth the $30 bucks.

Bioshock 2 box art has some "cute" appeal

With most of the big game releases of 2009 now behind us, we can now look forward to the ton of games currently set to be released in the first quarter of 2010. The gang at 2K Games have been promoting the upcoming FPS sequel BioShock 2 for some time via a viral campaign but now it's time for some good old fashioned marketing with the reveal of the box cover.

The cover shows off your player character, the prototype Big Daddy that you inhabit while exploring the underwater city of Rapture. There's also a Little Sister taking a ride on Big Daddy on the cover which should throw off a few parents who might actually think this is a game for kids . . . until they see the big fat "M" rating.

BioShock 2 multiplayer trailer chases down Little Sisters

This new trailer for BioShock 2 demonstrates the Capture the Little Sister multiplayer mode. In it, teams work to pick up Little Sisters (although they don't seem very happy about it) and depositing her in a vent. Players will will have to coordinate with each other, because even though the Little Sister is immune to damage, you won't be.

BioShock 2 trailer gets trapped among the dead

This trailer for BioShock 2 reveals quite a bit of gameplay, including some of the powerful weapons and abilities that will be at the disposal of players as a Big Daddy. There's also plenty of combat against splicers, other Big Daddies and of course Big Sister to look forward to. Fans will have to wait a bit to discover who the narrator is, since "The Voice of Rapture" clearly distinguishes herself from Big Sister. BioShock 2 is expected to release in 2010.

As promised there's a lot of new info about BioShock 2 in this week's episode as we get closer to the February 2010 release of the first person shooter sequel.

We don't want to give away all the new info in the episode but we will say you will learn a lot more about the game's storyline, including the new leader of the underwater city of Rapture. There's also the reveal of a new multiplayer mode that sounds interesting, some more info about the splicers and more locations shown in the city. It's up to you to see if you want to spoil the surprises, particularly about the sequel's storyline, for yourself.

More BioShock 2 secrets to be revealed soon

It's been a little while since we have heard any real concrete news on BioShock 2. Sure there are all those viral marketing campaigns but aside from that there's been nothing major on the first person shooter sequel since publisher 2K Games showed the title to the press at E3. That may be changing this week as GameTrailersTV is planning to have a BioShock 2 heavy episode early Friday morning.

The show's host Geoff Keighley reveals in a new Twitter post that we will see "Lots of new single player info and footage! You'll meet new characters too...." Apparently one of those new characters is now in charge of the art-deco designed underwater city of Rapture. Hmmmmmm.

Package reveals more of BioShock 2's viral campaign

Just yesterday we reported that some members of BioShock 2's web community got a telegram from a man from "Speedy Brothers Telegrams" announcing that a package would soon be arriving at their doorstep. That day was apparently Sunday as the telegram folks send over the promised package.

Reports from the game's message boards
and links to pictures show that the package contained one of a series of masks that have been seen in screenshots worn by the Splicers in the upcoming FPS sequel. It also contains a note from "Mark Meltzer" asking for more info in order to find his daughter. Again, we suspect this is not the end of this particular viral marketing push.

More weird BioShock 2 viral marketing shows up

We've reported on both the virtual and real office that have shown up to promote the FPS sequel BioShock 2. We've also talked about the recent event where certain beach locations around the world have seen bottles of wine from the ""Worley Winery" show up in the sand containing poster images from the city of Rapture.

Now it appears the viral marketing campaign has moved on to a new level as a number of BioShock 2 web community members have reported receiving a message delivered by "Speedy Brothers Telegram" to their house via a man riding a bike. The web site NetworkTwentythree.com has pictures of the telegram (where it hints a package is coming soon) along with a picture of the telegram delivery man in his rather cool retro costume. We just hope the actual game, due out in early February, is as cool as the marketing scheme behind it.

BioShock finally coming to the Mac in October

While PC gamers are anxiously awaiting the release of BioShock 2 in early February, Mac owners will finally be able to play the original game in the first person shooter series in a native format. Feral Interactive has announced that the Mac version of BioShock will be released in October.

Yes, that does mean it took over two years for the Mac gaming audience to get a native version of 2K Boston's FPS masterpiece of gameplay and art design. BioShock 2 to be released on February 9, 2010

Break out the Rapture wine! 2K Games has now given a new official release date for the long awaited FPS sequel BioShock 2 this morning. The game, originally scheduled to come out this fall, will now be released on February 9, 2010. The PC version has also been confirmed as a Games For Windows Live title.

While the single player portion of BioShock 2, which takes place after the events of the first game, is being handled by 2K Marin, the all new multiplayer portion of the title is being created by Digital Extremes. 2K Australia and 2K China are also involved in the game's development. BioShock 2 will be just one of many major game titles that will be released in the first quarter of 2010, thanks in part to delays that pushed many games from their planned fall 2009 debuts.

Zune HD launches with engraved support for game images

Microsoft tries yet again to go after Apple's iPod series with their new Zune HD which goes on sale today. The slick Flash hard drive based media player comes in 16 GB and 32 GB versions and a number of different colors. However, if you want even more customization, Microsoft is also offering some special engraving for your Zune HD that includes options for game images.

Naturally the images come from Microsoft's Xbox 360 library but two of the games are also out for the PC. You can get a Big Daddy image from BioShock or get the logo for Valve's zombie co-op shooter sequel Left 4 Dead 2 on your Zune HD. Best of all there's no extra charge for the engraving service when you buy your Zune HD from Microsoft's site.

PAX 2009: The view from BioShock 2's traveling office

It made it's first appearance on a Flash web site and later it took physical form at last July's San Diego Comic Con. This weekend the mysterious "office" at the heart of the viral marketing campaign for BioShock 2 made its second appearance in the real world during PAX 2009.

The dense exhibit invited fans interested in the upcoming 2K Games first person shooter to walk in and examine papers, props and even some working items like a tape recorder and a record player to get more info about what might or might not be happening in the underwater city of Rapture. We suspect that there will be more opportunities to explore the office before BioShock 2 is released sometime in 2010.

PAX 2009: BioShock 2 multiplayer trailer makes a splicer out of you

BioShock 2's cooperative multiplayer gets a lot of attention because players get to take the role of a Big Daddy and crush those that get in the way. This trailer, being shown at PAX 2009, balances things out by featuring the game's competitive multiplayer aspect. Once again, players will be taking a new and different point of view, that of a genetically modified (and slightly insane) splicer, using Rapture's steampunk machinery, weapons and plenty of plasmids. Of course, things wouldn't be complete without a Big Daddy to shake things up.

BioShock 2
is expected to release in 2010.

BioShock 2 viral campaign continues at PAX 2009

2K Games is apparently continuing their viral marketing campaign for their first person shooter BioShock 2 during Penny Arcade Expo next weekend. Last month the publisher reproduced the "office" shown in the "Somethinginthesea.com" web site at the San Diego Comic-Con. Earlier this month a message on the site directed people to beaches around the world.

Now the game's community site says that "Something in the Sea continues in Seattle on September 4." It's unknown if 2K Games will simply bring the web site office set from Comic-Con to PAX or if they have something new and more elaborate planned for their next BioShock 2 viral campaign. It should be interesting.
