Download: Assassin's Creed: Lineage Full Movie

Assassin's Creed: Lineage is a live action film that sets the back story for Assassin's Creed 2. Originally presented as a series of short films, they've been compiled into a single feature and can be viewed or downloaded here. Altogether, the film is just over 30 minutes long.

"Developed by Ubisoft's Hybride Technologies, the visual effects studio behind 300 and Sin City, Assassin's Creed: Lineage combines live action and computer generated imagery (CGI) to explore the events that happen just before the Assassin's Creed II game starts. The short films revolve around Ezio's father, Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, and give insight on the game's back story and universe."

Assassin's Creed novel announced

Yesterday we reported on the early release of a novel based on Ubisoft's upcoming spy game Splinter Cell Conviction. Now comes word that another Ubisoft game is being turned into a prose piece. Assassin's Creed: Renaissance is the title of the book that's based on the upcoming stealth action game series.

The book, written by an apparent first time author named Oliver Bowden, seems to be based on the storyline from Assassin's Creed 2, at least according to the summary from Amazon.com The paperback is due for release on November 26 while the PC version of the game is due out in the first quarter of 2010.

Assassin's Creed 2 trailer doesn't work alone

In Assassin's Creed 2, players won't be acting as the lone wolf as they did in the previous game. Instead, the newly initiated killer will need a lot of support from allied factions to learn the skills of the trade. However, we kind of doubt Ezio can distract people the same way busty courtesans can. The game releases later this month on consoles and in 2010 for the PC.

Ubisoft reports on their latest financial numbers

It's "earnings season" on the stock market which means most of the game industry's publically traded companies are revealing their latest financial results. Earlier today Ubisoft announced that they had generated revenues of 83 million euros for their second quarter that ending September 30. Those revenues were down 52.8 percent compared to the same time period a year ago but were within Ubisoft's previously announced guidence.

Despite a slow first and second quarter for the company, Ubisoft hopes to make up for its with its third and fourth quarter games releases. PC gamers will get James Cameron's Avatar The Game in the current third quarter which is expected to bring in 540 million euros in revenues, up 6 percent from the same period a year ago. The fourth quarter (January-March 2010) will see the PC port of Assassin's Creed 2 released along with Splinter Cell Conviction and R.U.S.E.

Assassin's Creed 2's soundtrack to be released later this month

Even though the PC version of Assassin's Creed 2 isn't due for release until the first quarter of 2009, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy aspects of the game ahead of time. One thing you can do is listen to the game's musical score which will be released on November 16 via digital download.

As he did for the original game in 2007, Jesper Kyd returns to handle the sountdrack duties for the sequel to Ubisoft's stealth action game. The soundtrack was recorded at Capitol Studios with "A-List musicians and a Hollywood orchestra." You can listen to samples of the score at his official web site. Kyd also handled the musical score to Gearbox Software's hit shooter Borderlands.

Not a surprise but no Assassin's Creed 2 demo planned

In 2007 a lot of people wondered why Ubisoft would not release a demo for their new stealth action game Assassin's Creed. After all, no one knew if this new game franchise would work. In the end, it lack of a demo didn't seem to affect sales as the original Assassin's Creed sold millions of copies worldwide.

So it's not a shock to hear that the upcoming sequel, Assassin's Creed 2, won't get a demo either. Connected Consoles reports that an Ubisoft representative confirmed that fact during this weekend's Eurogamer Expo. It seems more and more high profile games are doing away with demo releases, at least before the game is released.

The French getting Assassin's Creed comic

Ubisoft is a company based in France, a country that has a solid respect for comic books. French comics include creations that are even known in the US including Tintin, Asterix and XIII (which Ubisoft adapted into a cel-shaded shooter a few years ago). Now their upcoming sequel Assassin's Creed 2 will be getting some marketing back-up from a French-made comic.

Bleeding Cool has three pages from the upcoming Assassin's Creed comic which will be published in France on November 13, a few days before Assassin's Creed 2 ships to stores on November 17. The preview pages from the comic, written by Eric Corbeyran and drawn by Djilalli Defaux, seem to show the assassin in the days of the Roman Empire rather than the Middle Ages setting of the game sequel. Hopefully some comic book publisher in the US can bring this comic to our shores.

Assassin's Creed: Lineage Part 1 gets you ready for Assassin's Creed 2

As promised, Ubisoft has released the first of three short films under the umbrella title of Assassin's Creed: Lineage. The live action short movies with lots of green screen effects are designed to be a prequel to the events in Assassin's Creed 2 which is due out for the PC in the first quarter of 2010. The movie has Giovanni Auditore da Firenze as the central character; he's the father of Assassin's Creed 2's "star" Ezio.

The movie, created by Hybride Studios (which Ubisoft bought last year), is several notches above the usual viral marketing live action short that game companies sometime crank out to promote a game. This video looks and feels more like a serious production rather than a simple marketing scheme. The other two parts of the series should be released sometime in November.

Assassin's Creed just $5 on Steam until Thursday

Looks like Direct2Drive isn't the only downloadable PC game site to offer a $5 game this week. Today Steam announced a sale on Ubisoft's original game in the Assassin's Creed series for only 5 bucks. That's a 75 percent savings off its normal Steam price. The sale will remain in effect until Thursday.

Of course, the PC version of Assassin's Creed was released several months after the console version shipped to stores. However the PC port did have some extra missions and tweaks to the game. However it looks like the upcoming sequel, Assassin's Creed 2, will follow the original as the PC version. While the console ports are due on November 17 the PC version won't be released until the first quarter of 2010.

First Assassin's Creed 2 live action short film debuting next week

Ubisoft's first small venture into creating live action short films is set to debut next week. Venture Beat reports that the first of three short films that will promote their upcoming stealth action game Assassin's Creed 2 will appear on YouTube's front page in eight different countries on October 27

As we have reported before, the three short films will serve as a prequel to the events in the game which will be released for the PC in the first quarter of 2010. The short films, which total 38 minutes in length, were made at Hybride Technologies, the special effects production company that Ubisoft bought in 2008.

Newest Assassin's Creed dev diary gets brutal

Unlike Altair, the character from the previous Assassin's Creed, Ezio is not a born and bred assassin. Instead, he gets pulled into the profession by circumstances. Although Ezio isn't institutionally trained, he can still hold his own in a fight, as this developer diary video demonstrates. In Assassin's Creed 2, players will have to go toe-to-toe with a number of different enemy types designed to match against one of the character's primary skills, like free-running. However, Ezio has a few of his own tricks, including the ability to steal away weapons from opponents and use them for himself. The fighting gets really brutal and bloody, but there will be times when it's smarter to throw down a smoke bomb and run away. Assassin's Creed 2 releases for console system in November and for the PC in 2010.
