Minecraft exceeds sales of 700,000 units
While the game was first released in May 2009, the vast majority of its sales have been made this year as MineCraft's popularity has caught on. It broke the 500,000 unit sales line on October 29 and reached the 600,000 unit sales number on November 12. If the game's sales continue at its current rate it will break the 1 million mark in early 2011. In the meantime the developers are working to expand the game, including adding a new survival multiplayer mode, before officially putting Minecraft in its beta stage.

I like to hear about it. Great to know an indie developer is getting paid for something, and I don't go an check the ticker on Notch's site each day. Can't wait to see the 1 million sold post.Posted at 11:55AM on Dec 5th 2010 by sicsided
I really think that minecraft is getting all these sales because it's something that most people like to do.
Most games are based off of strictly based gameplay, often with limited choices as to what to do next. Minecraft takes that ideal and oblitherates it by simply placing you in a world and letting you function however you want. You can blow things up. You can create circuits. Labyrinths. Bases. Caves. Weapons. Heck, you can even do all of this with /multiple/ people. I think minecraft brings "sandbox" a whole new meaning and depth.
Also, this game not only tailors towards those who wish for that incredible sandbox mode, but also those who want a bit more adrenaline filled experience.
Simply stated, the mobs scared the crap out of me.
It's truly an immersive experience to be able to be frantically constructing a barrier between you and the outside world of creepers, zombies, skeletons, and spiders. The simplicity and intensity that this game brings with its creative and survival aspects is just irresisitable. I for one don't understand how this isn't news. It's a real breath of fresh air in the gaming scene. Actually, it's more of a whole sky of fresh air to explore the possibilities that this game could expand to. After all, it's not even in the beta, and really, this game has nowhere to go other than even better in my opinion.
If you out there haven't purchased this, or have pirated copies (shame on you), but really, the whole base of minecraft is in the multiplayer. It's something to build creations on your own, but a whole other thing to be able to cooperate with other people in building, raiding, defending, and having fun in minecraft. Although I'm not really trying to put down those who have un-paid copies, I'm truly recommending that you PAY for it so that you can really experience the true majesty of minecraft multiplayer.
You will /not/ be dissapointed.

Minecraft is truly mind boggling.
First they sell an alpha, which in any sane world should be a reason to condemn them, then they put a ticker on the web page and people report it as if it's actual news.
Says a lot more about the state of gaming "journalism" than it does about Minecraft, I suppose.Posted at 10:38AM on Dec 5th 2010 by Myria
