The Witcher 2 developers plan to fine people who download game illegally
CD Projekt's co-founder Marcin Iwiński states, "I'm sure you've heard about stories in the US when recording companies were chasing people. We don't want to be so harsh, but there is a chance that this might happen to some people if they download illegally. There will be an initiative." The game itself is due for release in mid-May 2011.

Your preemptive fine amounts to $50 (plus tax where applicable), payable to the retailer of your choice in the form of buying the game.Posted at 9:22PM on Nov 22nd 2010 by Lorben
unlike these nonsensical spam bots, i am ok with this. i shall be buying the boxed version though, cant say no to all of those goodies, and their digital form is just silly i think. :)
i cant believe i am more exited about the witcher 2 than dragon age 2. i only played through the witcher once and i started more than 4 games on dragon age [and finished it 3 times already].Posted at 10:37PM on Nov 22nd 2010 by perestroika
If game companies had the power and ability to punish pirates they would have done it a long time ago, and there is no way 'CD Projekt Red is going to create some landmark precedent in the field of international copyright laws or anti-piracy measures...Posted at 12:03AM on Nov 23rd 2010 by Evan Hatch
ps.
I see many people making excuses for piracy: "evil DRM", "DVD box with just the DVD inside", etc...
None of those excuses will be valid for the Witcher 2. I think CD Projekt is doing the right thing here by offering a good game, box full of stuff and no stupid DRM. Let's just hope they won't get pirated even more for that...Posted at 6:27AM on Nov 23rd 2010 by ahac
I doubt they can do much, but if they are able to even make a dent a fine a few people to make an example, good for them.
We have a great developer making a PC only game (for the time being) with no DRM. They not only made an awesome game, they continued to improve on it for a long ass time. I will buy this game on launch, and anyone else that wants it should do the same. I love developers like this and hate to lose them to piracy, I don't buy into the "a pirated game is not a lost sale" bs. Piracy is hurting our platform more then any other, I for one am glad that developers are taking a stand. Developers should always release a demo or a benchmark for their games, I think that would also help combat piracy for PC, I also see a lot of "I pirated it to see how well it ran on my PC" bs.
That said, I cannot wait to get my hands on this game : ) Posted at 12:26PM on Nov 23rd 2010 by ADM
