Blizzard responds to StarCraft II single player cheat ban claims
Blizzard Entertainment is not banning StarCraft II players just for using single-player cheats. There's been some confusion in the last couple of days about the suspensions and bans meted out to players caught cheating in StarCraft II. It's important to point out first, that many of the 3rd-party hacks and cheats developed for StarCraft II contain both single- and multiplayer functionality. In order to protect the integrity of multiplayer competition, we are actively detecting cheat programs used in multiplayer modes whether there are human opponents or not.
That said, players who opt to use any type of 3rd party hacks do so at their own risk -- there are already built-in cheat codes for StarCraft II single-player that can be used safely. Blizzard Entertainment has always taken cheating seriously and will continue to aggressively crackdown on players who cheat in our games.

^ Starcraft 2 does contain a few cheat codes out of the box. They cover the basics, God Mode, Give Resources, Instant Tech Tree, etc. and enabling them does disable achievements. Blizzard has no issues with these.
I've used the CheatHappens.com trainer in question here for single player myself. I'm a big proponent of altering game balance to fit the player's preferences. It has a number of unique options not covered under the built in cheat codes. At the same time, it can cause game breaking scripting glitches and instability.
I can see where Blizzard is coming from and because they give the option of built in cheat codes, cheaters like me still have an acceptable alternative. On the other hand, them having the power to ban me from single player because of something I'm doing in single player is WAAAAAY LAME! I think the Battle.net requirement for single player is a bad sign of things to come. Also Blizzard's achievement system is dumb.

they should probably make a cheat-mode like source engine's "sv_cheats" which also disables achievements when its activated. The big issue I see about blocking singleplayer cheats in the long run might hinder mods that need cheats to change gameplay mechanics.Posted at 12:36AM on Oct 13th 2010 by Sam
