Guide to TF2 Engineer Achievements, Part 7

Well howdy! It's been a while since y'all have come callin' ta us. Not that we mind, it's always nice ta extend our hospitality. That bein' said, y'all ain't here for a pleasure visit, are ya? Ya wanna know how to get them fancy new gadgets that TF Industries is promoting. Well, I'm sure if ya do the tasks laid out, y'all will get your goodies soon enough. Maybe I can help, too. After all, before I retired, I was quite tha Engineer, and I know how ta get things done. Y'all follow along, and try not ta lose your place. I may have a drawl, but I talk fast! In case ya lost track, here's the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth parts of my lil' talk.

Deputized

Get 10 assists with another Engineer where a sentry gun was involved in the kill.

As an assist achievement, this one is noticeably strange. After all, Engineers are not known for their prowess at assists. However, it's an easy achievement to get with everyone playing Engineers nowaday, so go for it. Simply put, all you have to do is either get a kill assisted by a friendly sentry, assist with your sentry in a kill, or have your sentry and a friendly sentry attack and assist whichever one gets the kill. All you really have to do to get this is set up never a friend. You should have it in no time. Farming it is the same, only get a friend to run repeatedly into the crossfire of two sentries. That's get you a credit towards this achievement for sure.

Note: A deputy is the second-in-command to any official, from a cop to a business owner. It's most commonly used in the context of the Old West, where it denotes someone deputized by the Sheriff so that they could help preserve the peace. Interestingly enough, deputizing could be either temporary (such as in rounding up a posse) or permanent.

Drugstore Cowboy

Have dispensers you created dispense a combined amount of 100,000 health over your career.

Grinding all the day long. This achievement is very self-explanatory. Do we even need to talk about it? Just have your dispenser in a place where teammates can use it to heal, and watch the points rack up. As soon as you hit 100,000 points, you will get the achievement. Naturally, you won't get this in a single life, so don't even try. You can get credit towards this achievement while working on other dispenser achievements, such as Doc Holiday. Besides that, just wait it out. You'll get it eventually.

Note: The achievement title is a reference to the 80s film Drugstore Cowboy, which deals with serious drug addiction. It's also a possible reference to the phraes "dime store cowboy."

Circle the Wagons

Repair 50,000 damage to friendly buildings constructed by other players.

And it's time for another grinding, non-farming achievement. This one in particular has you repairing damage to friendly buildings, and will likely take a very, very long time. The reason why is simple: you are usually too focused on protecting your own assets. However, if you really want to start the long, slow grind towards getting this achievement, simply play the role of wandering combat Engineer. Help your buddies build stuff and repair it, rather than making your own fortress. Doing this will eventually net you the achievement. You will probably also get all the other assistance achievements as well, such as Land Grab.

Note: Circling the wagons is a tactic used by settlers when they would bed up for the night. By circling the wagons, they would pen in any animals they brought with them as well as offer marginal protection. Contrary to popular belief, they would not circle wagons when attacked. However, the idiom has now taken on the meaning of hunkering down or preparing for a defense.

Built to Last

Help a single building take over 2000 damage without being destroyed.

This is a thoroughly ridiculous achievement, and one that will be extremely difficult. It is similar to the Wrangler achievement Building Block, only the building has to survive damage that can destroy it ten times over. It's relatively simple, mechanically: sit behind a sentry with a dispenser and continually repair it. Alternatively, you can sit behind a friendly sentry and repair it. As long as a building takes 2000 damage before going kaput, you'll get the achievement. Good luck with all those demos and such around, though.

To farm this, have a friend play as the Heavy on the opposite side. Build a dispenser, upgrade it, then move away as the Heavy fires. Once it reaches low health, repair it. Rinse and repeat many, many times. If you want to be totally safe, we suggest 30 times. Since this achievement is borderline impossible in regular play, farming is the more likely choice if you are going for it.

Note: Built To Last is as marketing slogan used by Ford, which is a company known primarily for its trucks.

(Not So) Lonely are the Brave

Keep a Heavy healed with your dispenser while he makes five kills.

Since this achievement is completely non-reliant on you, it's suggested that you get a friend willing to play the part of Heavy. Ready for what you need to do? Here's your entire contribution: build a dispenser near a high-traffic area, and keep it repaired. That's it! The Heayv does the rest. He must sit in place, continually being healed by a dispenser (or dispensers!) until he makes five kills without leaving its radius. He has to do this without dying, and without your dispenser getting destroyed. It's pretty tough! To farm it, just have a friend Scout run into your little installation five times. Not really possible to farm it with any other achievements, just like the rest of the achievements in this guide update.

Note: Lonely Are The Brave is a movie from the 1960s about a cowboy who gets himself locked up. He does this entirely so he can help his friend break out. It's also one of Kirk Douglas' better movies.
