Guide to TF2 Engineer Achievements, Part 6

Well howdy! It's been a while since y'all have come callin' ta us. Not that we mind, it's always nice ta extend our hospitality. That bein' said, y'all ain't here for a pleasure visit, are ya? Ya wanna know how to get them fancy new gadgets that TF Industries is promoting. Well, I'm sure if ya do the tasks laid out, y'all will get your goodies soon enough. Maybe I can help, too. After all, before I retired, I was quite tha Engineer, and I know how ta get things done. Y'all follow along, and try not ta lose your place. I may have a drawl, but I talk fast! In case ya lost track, here's the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth parts of my lil' talk.

Breaking Morant

Kill 10 Snipers with a sentry gun under the control of your Wrangler.

This achievement is perfect for one reason: it gets those nasty Snipers! Since sentries under the control of the Wrangler do not have the restriction on acquisition range, Engineers with them can freely target enemy Sniper nests with ease. All the Engineer has to do is kill ten Snipers with the Wrangler, and he gets the achievement. It's not ten in one life, and they can be any distance away, as long as they are Snipers. You can always kill one Sniper ten times.

Naturally, this achievement is super easy to farm. Yawn. Simply get a friend and have him die ten times to your Wrangled sentry while playing as a Sniper. The nice thing about this is that it ties straight into two other achievements: Building Block and Powned On The Range, both of which involve the Wrangler and are simple as well.

Note: The title, like most of these, is a reference to a piece of media. In this case, it's the Australian movie Breaker Morant, which is a fictional retelling of the court martial of Breaker Morant. For those unfamiliar with the film, a rough (very rough) analogue would be the American film A Few Good Men.

Rio Grind

Perform 50 repairs and/or reloads on a sentry gun being Wrangled by another Engineer.

This is a rather easy achievement to get. Linger behind a sentry being wrangled by a friendly Engineer, and smack it with your wrench continually. After a while, you'll get the achievement, especially if you are protecting it during a major assault. You can do this all at once or spread it out over your career. Note that every single resupply counts towards the achievement, even if it's only the next swing of your wrench. Naturally, farming this is a breeze. Just find a friend with the Wrangler, have them shoot at nothing, and whack the sentry with your wrench until you get the achievement.

Note: The achievement title is both a reference to the Rio Grand - a river that defines the border between Texas and Mexico - and the concept of grinding, as it is a grinding-based achievement.

Patent Protection

Destroy an enemy Engineer's sentry gun with a sentry under control of your Wrangler.

Another achievement that requires the Wrangler, which means that it is only possible after you have received it through either a random item drop or getting 17 of the Engineer achievements. All you have to do is kill an enemy sentry with your sentry while you have the Wrangler out. It's that simple! As the Wrangler shields the sentry and makes it fire twice as fast, this is fairly simple, but getting in a position to destroy another enemy sentry with your own is tough! Farming this is self-explanatory, like all these achievements, and does not link with any other achievements. It stands on its own.

Note: Interestingly enough, sentries will autotarget other sentries. Most players never realize this, as getting a sentry up to another sentry without dying is fairly difficult and requires distractions, luck, or both.

If You Build It, They Will Die

Haul a level 3 sentry gun into a position that achieves a kill shortly after being redeployed.

This achievement is easy. Really easy! Build a sentry back in your base, and upgrade it to level three. It works best if you are near the supply cabinet, since it instantly refills your metal. As soon as it is max level, haul it out towards where it is needed and deploy it. With any luck, it'll deploy and get a kill, netting you the achievement. Works best if you set it up sneakily, or right before an oncoming assault. Note that the "shortly after" is somewhere between five and ten seconds.

To farm this, get a friend to stand in place as you build a level three sentry, pick it up, haul it over to him, and set it down. As soon as it is set down, it'll kill him, getting you the achievement. Really easy! Best done with Uncivil Engineer and Six String Stinger, since there's no other achievements that relate to this one.

Note: The title is a reference to the movie Field of Dreams, where the main character hear's the phrase "If you build it, he will come." It is often misspoken as "If you build it, they will come."

Texas Ranger

Haul buildings one kilometer over your career.

This one, like many of the Engineer achievements (noticing a trend?) can't really be farmed. You can do so if you want, but it's silly to do so. To do this in any case, just grab your building after it is built with the right mouse button. If you want to farm it, just run around in circles. If you want to get it legitimately, simply run around to wherever you are needed and dump it off. It's as simple as that. After a while, you'll get the achievement. It's best if you set yourself to track progress, as you can tell how many meters you have hauled it. Also, falling does not count!

Note: A Texas Ranger is a member of the Texas Ranger Division, which is the oldest state-wide police force in the United States. It serves somewhat as a bridge between state police and the FBI, and has served many roles, from paramilitary force under the jurisdiction of Texas to a detective agency. They are immortalized in the show Walker, Texas Ranger.
