Guide to TF2 Engineer Achievements, Part 5

Well howdy! It's been a while since y'all have come callin' ta us. Not that we mind, it's always nice ta extend our hospitality. That bein' said, y'all ain't here for a pleasure visit, are ya? Ya wanna know how to get them fancy new gadgets that TF Industries is promoting. Well, I'm sure if ya do the tasks laid out, y'all will get your goodies soon enough. Maybe I can help, too. After all, before I retired, I was quite tha Engineer, and I know how ta get things done. Y'all follow along, and try not ta lose your place. I may have a drawl, but I talk fast! In case ya lost track, here's the first, second, third, and fourth parts of my lil' talk.

Death Metal

Pick up 10,000 pieces of waste metal from destroyed buildings.

This achievement is phenomenally easy to get in normal play. As your buildings get destroyed, simply run over the pieces to gather the scrap metal and rebuild. Keep playing, and eventually you'll get the achievement. Since the life of an engineer involves lots of wanton destruction of perfectly-functioning goodies, chances are you will get plenty of destroyed metal in a single round. Roughly five rounds of continual defense/offense as an Engineer should net you this achievement.

This is one of the only achievements you can farm on your own. It's so incredibly simple that it borders on the ridiculous. Start building something (sentry gun, dispenser, whatever), then use the destroy button to explode it. Gather up the metal strewn about, and watch as the achievement progress ticks up. It's really that simple. You don't even have to upgrade, or let the building finish. Just detonate it right away!

Note: Destroyed metal picked up while you have full metal reserves still counts. You can't tell, though, unless you have the achievement on watch through the TF2 interface.

Land Grab

Help a team member construct a building.

You should be doing this already! No point in farming, since this is literally the easiest achievement on this page. Simply pick Engineer and follow a fellow Engineer. When he starts to build something, hit it with your wrench. Instant achievement. The building has to be in the process of setting up, or you won't get the achievement. This was, funnily enough, the first achievement we ever got from this pack, precisely because it is so easy. Anyone can do it the second they start the game.

Note: For those that don't know, every wrench hit by an individual Engineer increases the build speed of a structure. One hit from the original Engineer makes it build slightly faster. Two Engineer hits makes it build fairly fast. Three makes it build almost instantaneously.

Git Along!

Manage to get to, and then remove, a sapper placed on your building while you were several meters away.

This is alternately a tough or easy achievement, depending on how good you are as an Engineer. The achievement itself is simple: break a sapper while you are a good distance from your building. This usually means that you are on the front lines and unable to return, rendering your building forfeit. However, if you are staying relatively (read: within sight) of your building, you should be good. Wait for a spy to sap it, run and knock it twice with your wrench. Sapper gone, achievement acquired. It's as simple as that!

To farm this achievement, get a friend to play the opposing Spy, and have him place a sapper on your building while you are a good distance away. Run to him and knock off the sapper, netting you the achievement. This is best combined with Quick Draw and The Wrench Connection, as you can do both with a single farming motion if you use a teleporter as the bait.

Note: You have to be the one to remove the sapper, not a Pyro or another Engineer.

How the Pests was Gunned

Destroy 50 enemy stickybombs lying in range of friendly buildings.

This is a simple one. Stickybombs are now destructible, and all you have to do is shoot them. When you do, they either go away or simply break. As a demoman is shooting stickybombs at you, simply shoot them away with your shotgun. Once you destroy 50 of the stickies, you get the achievement. Due to the typically incredibly difficult nature of this simple achievement, it may be best for you to farm this with a friend Demoman. it's a relatively fast achievement to farm, as well, so you don't have to worry about spending too much time on it. Just have him empty his stock of stickybombs at you, and destroy them all the way.

Note: The achievement title is a reference to the film How The West Was Won, which is an MGM movie that chronicled several generations of the Prescott family as they worked their way slowly towards California. It's one of the best western movies, and was nominated for quite a few Academy Awards.

Honky Tonk Man

Smash an enemy player's head in with your guitar.

This achievement is incredibly tough, so it's most likely you will want to farm it. When you taunt with the Frontier Justice, the Engineer will take out his guitar and play a few notes. He will then smash it on the ground in front of him, promptly killing anyone foolish enough to be standing there. It's a tough achievement to get because of its status as a taunt kill. After all, taunt kills take a lot of time to charge up before triggering. Still, if you find yourself standing next to a Sniper, you might be able to smack him with your guitar. Otherwise, just have a friend be there for you to smack around.

Note: The achievement title is a reference! This time it's to Honky Tonk Man, which is both an influential country-western song as well as a movie starring Clint Eastwood. The reference is most likely to the song, as the Engineer is playing a guitar after all.
