Guide to TF2 Engineer Achievements, Part 4

Well howdy! It's been a while since y'all have come callin' ta us. Not that we mind, it's always nice ta extend our hospitality. That bein' said, y'all ain't here for a pleasure visit, are ya? Ya wanna know how to get them fancy new gadgets that TF Industries is promoting. Well, I'm sure if ya do the tasks laid out, y'all will get your goodies soon enough. Maybe I can help, too. After all, before I retired, I was quite tha Engineer, and I know how ta get things done. Y'all follow along, and try not ta lose your place. I may have a drawl, but I talk fast! In case ya lost track, here's the first, second, and third parts of my lil' talk.

Texas Two-Step

Use your shotgun to finish off an enemy recently damaged by your sentry gun.

This achievement can be difficult or simple, depending on who youare playing with and just how accurate you are with your shotgun. After all, a fair number of players go Engineer because it is not quite as accuracy intensive as other classes! You have to track down somebody who has taken damage from your sentry and kill them. Alternately, you have to kill somebody currently attacking your sentry gun, which is probably the easier proposition. A good way to get this is to attack somebody who has a Medic on them that is attacking your sentry. Despite the Medic, he will likely die, giving you the achievement.

To farm this, have a friend play a Scout and have them step out briefly in front of your sentry. Once they take a hit, run after them and gun them down. Boom, you have the achievement. If you want, you can also combine this achievement with Revengineering, as the Frontier Justice counts as a shotgun. To do that, simple have someone play as Heavy, Demoman, or Soldier, let them destroy your sentry after they take a little damage, and then kill them.

Note: The Texas Two-Step, also known as the country two-step, is a style of dance that is normally done to country music. It's very simple, but very fast. This achievement title is obviously a reference to this method of dance.

The Extinguished Gentleman

Have dispensers you built extinguish 20 burning players.

An obvious play on "The Distinguished Gentleman," this achievement has you saving your teammates from fiery death through the powers of your dispenser. While a dispenser does not heal as fast as a Medic, it can still extinguish flames and it still heals, making it a great place to regroup. In this case, you need only extinguish 20 teammates in your entire career. Unfortunately, as players on fire generally seek out medics and not dispensers, this can be annoyingly difficult to do.

To far this achievement, you need to friends: one to be the Pyro, and one to be the effigy. Have the enemy pyro set your friend on fire, then have him go to the dispenser to heal up and take the fire off. Rinse and repeat as many times as necessary to get this achievement. Unfortunately, there are no other achievements you can reliably do this one with, although Doc Holiday is a slight possibility as it requires a dispenser as well.

Note: Naturally this doesn't have to be all at once. it can also be the same player 20 times. In this way, it's a lot like the calling and extinguishing achievements for the Medic.

Doc Holiday

Have a dispenser heal three teammates at the same time.

Now this achievement is hard. People rarely think of dispensers as anything more than a repository for all the metal that an Engineer needs. However, it can definitely be used to support teammates in important ways, such as healing. You will msot likely get this achievement completely by accident, such as when you get crowded right before the start of the match as a defender.

To farm this achievement, get three friends. You ready for the incredibly hard next step? Have them stand next to one of your dispensers. That sure was hard! Sarcasm aside, farming this achievement is so ridiculously easy that, if you really want to get it, you should definitely farm it. Doesn't really go with any achievements, except possible The Extinguished Gentleman if you have enough friends.

Note: If you didn't catch the reference here, you are in trouble! The person this achievement title makes an allusion to is the famous Doc Holliday, who was one of the participators in the well-known gunfight at the O.K. Corral. It's also a pun relating to the duties of the Medic.

No Man's Land

Use a sentry gun to kill 25 enemy players trying to capture a point.

This achievement is not really meant to be farmed, since it is so simple that you are likely to get it quite fast anyway. Simple place your sentry gun near a point and watch the kills roll in. Once you hit 25 lifetime kills, you get the achievement. It's as simple as that. In general, you will want to set up your sentry so that it only overlooks the point, rather than the area leading up to the point, as it will be less likely to be destroyed in that case and you will rack up the kills in no time.

Note: No Man's Land is the area between the trenches in World War 2. It is where many soldiers died, blown to pieces by mortars or cut to ribbons by machine-gun fire, as they tried to capture the next trench up. Naturally, it's fitting that a capture point achievement be related to this!

Trade Secrets

Kill 20 players carrying the intelligence.

Once again, another achievement not worth farming. There's two ways you can do this: either build your sentry in an area relatively near the intelligence and hope they run into it, or build your sentry in their intelligence room. Personally, we prefer the latter. It's much more devious, and overall offers a much higher chance of catching an intelligence thief in the act. With bullets and rockets, of course. The easiest place to set up such a base is in the intelligence rooms of 2fort. You can also set up near a dropped case, as enemies will run into fire just to delay the timer enough for pick-up.

Note: You must get the kill for the achievement credit to count. You can't merely get an assist. THe enemy must also be definitely carrying the intelligence, not just in the general vicinity.
