Guide to TF2 Engineer Achievements, Part 1

Well howdy! It's been a while since y'all have come callin' ta us. Not that we mind, it's always nice ta extend our hospitality. That bein' said, y'all ain't here for a pleasure visit, are ya? Ya wanna know how to get them fancy new gadgets that TF Industries is promoting. Well, I'm sure if ya do the tasks laid out, y'all will get your goodies soon enough. Maybe I can help, too. After all, before I retired, I was quite tha Engineer, and I know how ta get things done. Y'all follow along, and try not ta lose your place. I may have a drawl, but I talk fast!
Battle Rustler

Teleport 100 team members into battle.

This achievement should be one of the first ones you get, purely thanks to how few teleports you have to get. Simply build a useful teleport for your teammates to use, and watch the counter increment up to 100. It's that simple. The best maps for this, coincidentally, are Payload, as you are less likely to be forced to rebuild your forward base on a Payload map. We suggest giving it a go on the three new maps included with the update, as they are worthy of being played and will give you ample opportunity to get the teleports needed.

To farm this achievement, you only need one other friend. Build your teleporter entrance and exit right next to each other, and upgrade the teleporters to level 3. Then have your friend hop into the entrance every time he can. You'll get the achievement in no time at all. You can also combine it with Quick Draw if your friend is a spy.

Note: This achievement title is a reference to the criminal profession of cattle rustling. Cattle rustling is where one or more rustlers steal the livestock of a landowner, either for themselves or to sell to another landowner. This was a common practice in the Old West, where it often carried the death penalty (carried out by posses, naturally).

Revengineering

Use a revenge crit to kill the enemy player that destroyed your sentry gun.

To get this achievement, you will need the Frontier Justice, which can be found after either five Engineer achievements or through the item drop system. You get revenge crits whenever your sentry is destroyed, and you get differing amounts according to how many kills and assists it got (up to a maximum of 35). If you are aiming for this achievement in normal play, make sure you don't die when your sentry is destroyed and you should be able to get the player who killed it. Simply chase them down and blast away.

Farming this one is a little tricky, but doable. Get a sentry up, and have a friend die to it twice. Then have the same friend blow it apart, giving you four revenge crits. After you get the crits, hunt him down and kill him. It's important to note that if you build another sentry gun or die, it resets the achievement progress. Also goes perfect with the Texas Two-Step, as your friend will get damaged killing the sentry gun.

Note: The achievement title is an obvious pun on revenge and engineering. It is also a possible reference to the practice of reverse-engineering. This is where someone takes a technological device and works backwards to find out how it was made. In other words, you dismantle something to figure out how it works. It's very common in most technological circles, especially programming, as it allows one to replicate complicated systems without having blueprints.

Search Engine

Kill three cloaked Spies with a sentry gun under control of your Wrangler.

While killing a cloaked spy with a normal sentry gun is borderline impossible, killing them with a Wrangler is relatively simple. All you have to do is point and fire at where you think the spy is. Think of it as an extension of the normal spy-hunting tactics. When you get three cloaked spies, you will get this achievement. Thankfully, you do not have to get all three in a single sentry gun life, which makes this achievement relatively easy as long as you are persistent. Remember that cloaked spies flicker when they bump teammates or take damage. Use this to your advantage!

To farm this, just get a friend spy to cloak in front of your sentry three times. Then shoot him. It's as simple as that! If you want to, you can combine it with either Git Along! or If You Build It, They Will Die, as both go well with gunning down spies quickly. Beyond that, there's not much to this one. It will probably be one of the last ones you get, thanks to the Wrangler being the final unlock for the Engineer.

Note: The title of this achievement is an obvious pun on the computer term search engine. In this case, it refers to the searching for cloaked spies and the mechanical nature of the sentry gun.

Pownd on the Range

Kill 10 enemies outside the normal sentry gun range using the Wrangler.

The normal sentry gun has an acquisition range that enemies can stand outside of. However, the bullets and rockets have infinite range. Thus, this achievement is born. Simply attack and kill enemies outside the natural acquisition range of a non-wrangled sentry gun. Whenever you kill one, this achievement will increment up one. Get ten kills, and you've got it. It's also suggested that you also have another Engineer help you keep the sentry stocked as you attack enemies.

Farming this naturally involves standing in a wide-open space and gunning down your friends across impossible distances. Naturally, the best map for this is 2fort. Interestingly enough, this goes hand-in-hand with Break Morant, which asks you to kill Snipers with a wrangled sentry. Since Snipers will almost always be outside of your range, it counts for both achievements! Easy to both farm and do normally if you keep Snipers in mind as your target.

Note: This achievement is a merger of "Home on the Range" and the gamer term "p0wned." P0wned is a corruption of "owned" and means that you beat another player easily, while Home on the Range is the state song of Kansas.

Building Block

Have a sentry shielded by the Wrangler absorb 500 damage without being destroyed.

Yet another Wrangler achievement, this one uses the built-in shield. It's easiest if the sentry is level 3 and you have a friend repairing it, as level 3 sentries are the toughest and there is nothing in the achievement about the sentry being repaired by someone else. However, the sentry must be shielded every time it takes a hit, otherwise it does not count. So keep out your Wrangler and get a fellow Engineer to keep you stocked up. It counts for the Rio Grind achievement, after all!

For being from Texas, there sure isn't a lot of farm in the Engineer's achievements! Simply have a friend go soldier and have him shoot your sentry a few times while it is shielded. Once it gets dangerously low, repair it, then wrangle it again. Continue until you have the achievement! Alternatively, do it with another friend on your side as a repairing Engineer so taht you don't have to do anything. Goes well with Powned on the Range and Breaking Morant, thanks to the high damage of classes that can attack from such a distance (Sniper and Soldier).

Note: The shield on the Wrangler stops an issue that would otherwise happen without it. A wrangled, unshielded sentry is not being repaired by the Engineer, and sentries are not exactly the most durable products in the world. By adding the shield, the developers drastically increased the amount of damage the sentry can take, deftly sidestepping the issue.
