The 2010 edition of E3 has been over for a week now but we are still recovering from checking out all of the titles that we saw at the Los Angeles Convention Center. There were also lots of games that were there we didn't get to see unfortunately. But most importantly of all were the games we know are being made but still didn't make it to the show.
E3 is unquestionably the single biggest event in the game industry but for a variety of reasons some highly anticipated PC titles were not even shown in trailer form at the event. So which games went missing? We just happened to have created a handy list of titles that we think could have made an appearance of some type at the show.
Dragon Age 2 - Electronic Arts has already announced that some kind of
Dragon Age game is due out in the first quarter of 2011 from developer BioWare. Yet the RPG title wasn't even mentioned at E3 by the publisher. We are not sure what they are waiting for but we rather thought we would get at least a teaser trailer
Mass Effect 3 - Same publisher, same developer and same disappointment. Perhaps it's just too early to reveal what EA and BioWare have planned for the final chapter in the sci-fi RPG trilogy but it still would have been cool to see a teaser of what's to come.
Irrational Games' next title - It's been nearly three years since the release of the original
BioShock but Irrational Games' next title for publisher 2K Games is still shrouded in secrecy. We thought that perhaps we might get a teaser trailer at one of the console game publisher's press releases but nothing came of that.
Next Doom Game - id Software announced plans for the next game in their shooter series over two years ago. We will repeat that: two years ago. There has not been any news on its progress since, not even a screenshot. Perhaps we will have to wait for this year's QuakeCon.
Guild Wars 2 - NCsoft has bypassed E3 for the past few years now and this one was no exception. That means no footage or gameplay from ArenaNet's
Guild Wars 2. We will have to wait for Gamescom in August to see this game in live action for the first time.
Blizzard's titles - While it's parent company Activision held a music event just before E3 and shown some of its games behind closed doors, Blizzard once again stayed home. That meant no last minute previews of
StarCraft II, no new looks at
Diablo III and nothing of the expansion pack
World of Warcraft Cataclysm. There is always BlizzCon.
Max Payne 3 - Rockstar Games had already said they planned to bypass E3 this year. That means we still haven't see this third game in the action series up and running. If Rockstar's history is any indication it may be a long time before we see this title live and in color.
Fable III PC - Microsoft made a big deal about the fact that Fable III was being ported to the PC yet the E3 demos for Lionhead's RPG were all Xbox 360 versions. Hopefully we won't have to wait until the game actually ships to see how the PC version looks.
I Am Alive - Ubisoft showed a teaser trailer for this action-adventure game at E3 two years ago. Since then all we know about this title is that the original developer was dumped and that work continues. That's all. Nothing more to see here.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 - Like I Am Alive, this game was revealed a while back by Ubisoft but since then there's been only been whispers and hints that the sequel to the acclaimed action-adventure title is still in the works. But hey; we are getting a new Rayman game. Please contain the excitement.
Batman: Arkham Asylum sequel - Revealed last December in a teaser trailer, we had hopes to see this super hero game in action at Warner Bros Interactive's E3 booth. But it looks like Batman is staying in his Batcave for a little while longer.
Half-Life 2: Episode 3 - Valve, we think you are one of the best game developers around and we think it's great you are releasing games on a more frequent basis now (
Left 4 Dead in 2008,
Left 4 Dead 2 in 2009 and
Portal 2 due in 2011). But it's been three years since
Half-Life 2: Episode 2 left us with a cliffhanger. Please hustle that final episode up for us ASAP.
ZeniMax Online's MMO - The company that's also home to Bethesda Softworks has been working on an MMO project for a long time; three years in fact. There's been pretty much no news about what's been happening with this title since then. We bet most of you didn't even know such a game was in the works.
The Secret World - Funcom's next major MMO project got some reveals last year at Gamescom and again at PAX. But for E3 2010 the developer decided to stay home and keep its conspiracy-themed game locked up. Is that yet another conspiracy?
Aliens: Colonial Marines - Gearbox's movie based shooter has been in limbo for some time. We thought that the solid sales of
Aliens Vs Predator would make Sega put this game on a pedestal at E3 but it didn't happen. Let's hope its not "Game Over" for this title.
Duke Nukem Forever - Hey, the lawsuits have been settled so that must mean that this long, long, long-in-development shooter could have been shown at E3 last week. Right. 3D Realms? Right Take Two Interactive? No? Oh. Ok then.
