Countdown to E3 2010: The First Person Shooters We Want To See

In just one week, the Big Download posse will be in Los Angeles for E3 2010, the biggest single event in the game industry. While many in said industry have called E3 an event that's mostly about console games, that's simply not the case, especially this year as there will be a number of major PC exclusive titles at E3 as well as games that will be best played on a PC system.

This week we will give you our picks for the games that we are most anxious to check out at the show. That doesn't mean we have pre-judged these games. These are just the titles that we most want to see at the show. Also the games we are about to post are confirmed as being displayed at E3 2010. We are not posting about rumored games (although if Half-Life 2 Episode 3/Half-Life 3 shows up we will be very happy).

So let's get started with today's installment as we look at the already crowded list of first person shooters that are confirmed for E3 2010.

Brink - Developer Splash Damage and publisher Bethesda Softworks first announced their sci-fi shooter just before E3 in 2009. With only a few months to go before it's planned fall 2010 release we hope to see a lot more of this game at this year's show.

Medal of Honor - Electronic Arts' revival of their military shooter franchise takes the series to modern day Afghanistan. E3 2010 should give us an idea on if this title, a collaboration between EALA and Digital Illusions, will be a worthy competitor to Activision's Call of Duty series.

F.E.A.R. 3 - The third game in this horror-themed shooter series from publisher Warner Bros. Interactive promises some co-op action and more of that scary girl Alma. But our question is whether Day 1 Studios can live up to the high expectations set by the game's originator Monolith.

Portal 2- Valve's sequel to their award winning puzzle shooter series is getting its first big public exposure at E3 2010. With a release date of fall 2010 we will hopefully see if this game will be worth expanding beyond the two hour experience of the original.

Call of Duty Black Ops - Developer Treyarch proved it could make an entertaining shooter title with Call of Duty: World at War. This new installment in Activision's best selling game franchise takes the series into the Vietnam War era but our big question is, "Are the zombies coming back?"

Ghost Recon Future Soldier - Developer/publisher Ubisoft's near-future look at military warfare gets another version for release in early 2011. We should get a first look at the game during E3.

Rage - id Software's next original game was first announced at QuakeCon way back in 2007. Now id's new publisher and owner Bethesda Softworks will give us another glimpse at this post-apocalyptic game at E3 2010.

Crysis 2 - Developer Crytek finally abandons the tropical island setting for the very urban New York City in this sci-fi shooter sequel. Will the new location give the franchise a fresh start? We should learn more at E3.

Bulletstorm - Epic Games may not be bringing its Gears of War series to PC owners anymore but their next shooter game, in collaboration with publisher EA and developer People Can Fly, will be front and center during E3 2010.

Homefront - Developer Kaos Studios and publisher THQ showed us a tiny glimpse of Homefront, which depicts an invasion of the US by North Korea, at E3 2009. We expect to see a lot more of this game at this year's show.

Red Faction Armageddon - Developer Volition and publisher THQ are going back to basics, in a way, with this latest game in the sci-fi shooter series. E3 2010 will give us our first look at this title that due out in March 2011.

Blacklight Tango Down - Developer Zombie and publisher Ignition Entertainment plan to show off this upcoming downloadable near-future shooter during E3 2010.

XCOM - Will this first person shooter revival of the classic turn based strategy series from developer 2K Marin work? We hope to get an answer at E3 next week.

Spec Ops: The Line - It's yet another revival of a old game series, this time from developer Yager. This new version of the military shooter series takes place in a ravaged version of the city state of Dubai. That will be interesting to check out at E3.

Tomorrow we talk about the action games we want to see at E3 2010.
