Watch George A Romero watch Left 4 Dead 2
There's not too many people that can say they invented a movie genre but one of them is unquestionably George A Romero, who created the modern zombie movie with the original Night of the Living Dead in 1968 and followed it up with several more films in his "zombie-verse". Pretty much every other zombie movie since then owes some debt to Romero's zombie flicks. Zombie themed games have also tipped their hats to Romero's movies.
Romero's latest zombie flick, Survival of the Dead, is currently available via video on demand and will get a limited theatrical release on Friday. Today G4TV has posted up a video interview with Romero and the first part of the chat has Romero and the interviewer watching and commenting on gameplay footage from Valve's zombie shooter Left 4 Dead 2. Romero comments on how games like Left 4 Dead 2 compare to his movies, saying that perhaps the fast moving zombies in that title may work better for the game genre.

Yeah, there really are two differnt kinds of zombies nowadays. The dead corpses reanimated, and the people infected with some kind of virus. And that really does make the difference in how the zombies in question would behave. Each also brings their own set of fears. While the undead zombies clearly show that there is a lot of trouble in more and more people dying, the infected zombies have the bigger effect of people's humanity being taken away until they are basically left as savage beasts. Zombies are scary and interesting regardless of the form they take, and I would definitely be interested to see a movie or game that mixes both varieties.Posted at 4:39AM on Jun 1st 2010 by ZLB
