Rumors hit the internet a few days ago that a new game in the Total War RTS series would be announced at E3 2010. While publisher Sega would not confirm such an announcement to Big Download when we asked the company about the rumors, today the official Total War web site has what appears to be a countdown to some sort of future announcement.

The countdown looks like its designed to hint about the game's time period which the rumors, first posted by Voodoo Extreme, said would bring the Total War franchise "back to basics" in terms of weapons. The game series from developer The Creative Assembly, has been in the late 18th-early 19th centuries for its last two games, Empire Total War and this year's Napoleon Total War.
