Epic Games: "The money's on console" games

When it first started developer Epic Games was mostly noted for its PC titles, especially its Unreal and Unreal Tourmanent shooter games. But the company made a big shift to console gaming with the release of the first version of Gears of War for the Xbox 360. Now TheSixthAxis web site (using Edge magazine as its source) quotes Epic president Mike Capps who says the developer is admittedly concentrating on console game development, "because the money's on console."

It should be noted that Epic has not abandoned PC games entirely as Bulletstorm, the upcoming collaboration with developer People Can Fly, is slated for the PC. But according to Capps, "we already saw the impact of piracy: it killed a lot of great independent developers and completely changed our business model." We have to wonder how developers like Blizzard, Runic Games, Stardock and others feel about that since they all have been very successful with releasing PC only games.
