Left 4 Dead 2 Guide: Just Passing By

Much like Crash Course about six months ago, Valve has released a new campaign for Left 4 Dead 2. Those that have been starved for new experiences in one of the best co-op shooters ever will be delighted to know that this expansion is completely free! It adds a number of new goodies alongside the new campaign, which makes it more than just the two-map experience that Crash Course was. However, with all this new stuff, it's easy to get overwhelmed and not see or experience everything. Thankfully, there's a guide for all of this, and it's right here!

General Things to Know
  • There's a new gun in this campaign. It functions similar to the grenade launcher in that you can not get any more ammo for it, making it a weapon that should be reserved for an emergency. The new gun is the M60 light machine-gun, and it is a beast. It holds 150 rounds, fires as fast as the M16, and kills zombies with a single shot. You can't give it special ammo, get more ammo from a pile, or reload, so it's a weapon best saved for a horde. There is an achievement for killing 25 zombies with the M60 without releasing the trigger as well.
  • While there is a new melee weapon, it isn't much different from the normal ones. The new melee weapon is a golf club, and like the other melee weapons, it kills zombies in a single hit. However, the sound effect is extremely satisfying and there is an achievement for knocking off the heads of 18 zombies with the golf club, so there is incentive to use it.
  • There's none of the other uncommon in this campaign, but there is a new one: the Fallen Survivor. He's decked out in military gear and carries a bunch of survivor goodies like Molotovs and health kits. However, as soon as you attack him, he runs off to escape. Given that he has considerably more health than your average infected, not killing him on the first salvo is a likely occurrence. You have to balance the risk of chasing down the survivor with the reward of getting another health pack, grenade, or pills.
  • This campaign has a lot of tight spots and close-quarters combat. If you can, get a melee weapon at the start. They are incredibly handy throughout the whole campaign. This is also a campaign that encourages you to use shotguns throughout most of it, for the same reason that you want to use melee weapons.
  • While this campaign is advertised as being where the original survivors meet the new ones, the original survivors are only seen in the very beginning and very end. While this is disappointing for many players, there is a good reason for this. We'll let you discover it on your own what that reason is.
