We haven't heard much about the status of Guild Wars 2 since, well, Penny Arcade Expo back in September. Now it looks like developer ArenaNet and publisher NCsoft are preparing players of the original Guild Wars with special in-game events that will pave the way for the long awaited MMO sequel.

Rock Paper Shotgun apparently got a press release in advance from NCsoft, announcing that players of Guild Wars will get to participate in an ongoing in-game event with the overall title Guild Wars Beyond. The first part of the event, the War in Kryta, is already live and NCsoft states this event and others in the future will lead the way to the launch of Guild Wars 2 which is set 250 years after the events of the first game. Does this mean the first Guild Wars game will shut down after Guild Wars 2 goes live? Good question.
