Activision Blizzard: March quarter earnings tracking ahead of predictions

It's earnings season for those publishers which are publicly traded and the first company to announce some early results is Activision Blizzard. Ahead of their official results, which will be revealed on May 6, the company has announced that their last financial quarter, which ended March 31, is looking to be ahead of their expectations. Previously Activison Blizzard said their were expecting $1.1 billion in revenue for the March quarter.

Part of the reason for the higher numbers turns out to be strong global demand for Blizzard's hit MMO World of Warcraft and Activision's Modern Warfare 2. The Xbox 360 release of the Modern Warfare 2 map pack on March 30, which was a huge sales hit, also benefited the publisher since they had expected to release the map pack sometime during this quarter.
