Racing games are not exactly the most diverse genre out there. Where one can point to other genres such as role-playing games, first-person shooters, or real-time strategy games and see countless sub-genres and cross-ups, racing games have stayed relatively pure. There's three major sub-genres in racing: Kart games, like ModNation Racers or Mario Kart; realistic games, like Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo; and arcade games, like Initial D or Burnout. It is in the last subgenre that Split/Second sits, and if the videos are indicative of the final product, it appears to be quite the ride for those that love arcade racing games. Naturally, whenever we think something is looking good, it's time to get critical.
