2009's release of Red Faction: Guerrilla was something of a sales disappointment for publisher THQ but the company is confident the sci-fi shooter game franchise still has some life in it. Our sister site Joystiq reports from GDC 2010 that the next Red Faction game, currently due for release in March 2011, will hearken back to its original roots.
While Red Faction: Guerrilla was more of an open world game set on the surface of Mars, THQ's executive VP of Core Games Danny Bilson told Joystiq, "The new game takes [Red Faction] to a whole new place, it kind of goes back to the old Red Faction because about 80 [percent] of it is underground." Yes, the new game (which doesn't have an actual title yet) will still have that GeoMod destructible environment feature. We just hope the PC version is released at or close to the console ports this time. THQ plans to show off the new game this June at E3.

FPS with Red Faction: Guerrilla destruction would be greatPosted at 7:40PM on Mar 11th 2010 by Einhanderkiller

That's good. I thought Red Faction: Guerrilla was pretty boring and repetitive. I hope they go back to the FPS format, and add some things into the sequel that made first game so spiffy.Posted at 4:07PM on Mar 11th 2010 by that guy rom
