It has not been an easy time for fans of Battlefield Bad Company 2 to play their new first person shooter online. The game's main servers were down for part of the weekend and earlier this week the servers went down again for an extended maintenance period. Now comes word tonight (via the game's message boards) that the master servers at Electronic Arts are now down. No reason for the downtime was given.

This actually affects other games besides Battlefield Bad Company 2 but it does illustrate the kinds of issues a game can get when it is so tied into its online features. Hopefully this is just growing pains and that EA's IT guys can finally get things back up and running soon.

Update: EA has announced that the master servers are back up and running again.
