Hothead Games: Penny Arcade Adventures "didn't sell as well as we would have liked"
People have been wondering why there has not been much word on the fate of Penny Arcade Adventures. The first two chapters in the episodic adventure-RPG series from developer Hothead Games came out in 2008 but since then there's been no word on when the third chapter in the series will be released. Now a new Gamasutra interview may have found the reason for the delay.
Hothead's CEO Ian Wilkinson stated that while the first two chapters in Penny Arcade Adventures (based on the Penny Arcade web comic strip) got solid critical notices, "The Penny Arcade series didn't sell as well as we would have liked." He added, "With Penny Arcade, yes, a lot of people knew about it, but we just couldn't transition those people into buyers." There are hints that we will finally learn something about the third chapter in the series at PAX East later in March.

Are they honestly surprised? The games were f***ing expensive as hell. Yes they were good, but not good enough to warrant the price of a full game when the prices are added up. Hell, if they cut the prices in half so they were just 10 bucks instead of 20, they'd actually would of sold better.Posted at 3:30PM on Mar 6th 2010 by devilsei

but they did just slash the price for both together to $15 so I will probably finally buy them. That was the hang up for me as well. Just the price.Posted at 9:21PM on Mar 9th 2010 by jwhyrock

I can't believe that. Penny Arcade has a huge following, and the games were really solid. It's criminal that they didn't sell well.Posted at 11:35AM on Mar 6th 2010 by Godmil
