Portal 2 officially announced; arriving "this coming holiday season" [Update]

It's not exactly a shock to learn after all of the ARG shenanigans this week but today Valve officially announced plans to release Portal 2, the sequel to Valve's unique puzzle-action game that was first released in 2007 as part of The Orange Box game collection. The sequel is set to be released "this coming holiday season". No platforms were announced but it would be the shock of the century if the PC platform wasn't one of them. By the way, it looks like the ARG is still in play; check out the underlined letters in Valve's announcement.

Today's reveal by Valve was preceded by the announcement that Game Informer's next print issue will have a cover story on Portal 2. So far there are no details on what the cover story will reveal about the game. We hope we will soon find out if Portal 2 will be a short game to play like the original or if Portal 2 will be a longer experience.

Update: Eurogamer reports that Valve has indeed confirmed Portal 2 for a PC release.
