It's interesting how sequels end up working out. Chris Taylor's seminal RTS game,
Total Annihilation, never received a sequel thanks to the collapse of Cavedog and Humongous. A decade after
Total Annihilation, Chris Taylor's new outfit,
Gas Powered Games, released a spiritual sequel by the name of
Supreme Commander. Thankfully, we don't have to wait another decade for a sequel to
Supreme Commander.
Supreme Commander 2 is on its way to us Tuesday of next week, and we're as excited as ever for some new grand real-time strategy gaming. However, Chris Taylor has made quite a few changes to the formula that made
Supreme Commander so addicting, and it's to be seen whether or not these changes will be universally for the better. After all, did
Square Enix, master of the overwrought and dramatic RPG, have a negative influence on the production of
Supreme Commander 2? It's time to see through the hype surrounding the game.
I'm sorta disappointed by the demo. I know its hard to judge the full game by a demo and I already pre-purchased the game but I have some doubts about the direction of the second game. I found that alot of the little details that I loved so much about supcom are missing and the game seems over simplified in a sort of C&C way. Alot of the grand strategy elements as mentioned above are simplified too much and the feel of the first game is missing. But then it still is a demo so heres hoping the game itself is good.Posted at 6:55PM on Feb 25th 2010 by Davidjayder
